Problem with switch box is that even you are using the TOP quality cables you still see some sort of degradtion on the image quality.

Maybe it's just to me since my eyes are fu(king picky.

I just hooked up the Sony display half an hour ago.

    It's nothing short of stunning!

It is extremely bright, I stopped off at the Apple Store on the way home from work to see the HD Display again, and I'm telling you the Sony is at least (if not brighter) than the Apple Display!

Not a single dead or bad pixel (at least that I can see) and the brightness is even from end to end & top to bottom. I could not be more pleased.

(I'm running it with the Geforce 4Ti card).

Moreover I like the design better than the Apple display, it's modern clean design looks great sitting next to the Powermac and I like that its on a stand over the Apples easle design.

The cables get attached behind the back cover, you remove the back cover like speaker grills(Sony should be more explicit in the manual on how to remove the back cover, it doesn't say how its attached and you have to tug it at first to get it loose, its a little disconcerting to tug on this not knowing what will happen).

The manual has alot of info, as I hooked it up to the DVI connection the dispaly is gorgeous without any adjustments.

So, gorgeous display, beautiful design and less expensive than the Apple display!

congrats dygysy! So where did you buy it from and what was the cost? I am probably going to upgrade from the Apple 17" I have now...maybe as early as macworld....also I am running a Protools HD system...and the Apple HD display causes bugs with Protools I am curious if the Sony will have the same problems ( i believe the tracks on the bottom of the screen get screwed up)

dygysy can the height be adjusted or is it fixed? if it is able to be adjusted how high off the table can you make it? If it cannot be adjusted then how high of the table does it come? Also anyone know if the Sony uses a different LCD than Apples? Is apple using a samsung for their HD or ?

whats the best flat panel with 1600x1200 for the money?

ok last last question (maybe) for those of you with these size monitors could you see yourself wanting an even bigger monitor? I mean 23/24" is already quite big...how big is too big? would you even want a 30"? or would you rather have 2 or 3 23' monitors?

The height cannot be adjusted but you can tilt the screen. I'll try to post some pics tomorrow.

As far as how big is too big, this is like having an acre of real estate in front of you.

For many people, including me this resolution (1900x1200) would be too small if the display was not as sharp as it is.

Whats great is that it has a very small footprint, I thought it would look bigger than it is!

I think we're reaching the point where the physical size of the displays are about right. What I would rather see are higher pixel densities in those sizes. If the operating system could render its elements at something greater than 72dpi (You know, to keep menubars and what not proportional to their size currently) it would add a lot more detail to what we see on the screen. Who knows when/if this will ever happen, but that's where it should go imho

well an analyst on cnet predicted by 2006 (3yrs) we should see 30" lcd's for $999 but by then 3d displays will probably be what everyone wants...toshiba was displaying a 3d notebook prototype at comdex....what's cool about being in the Apple fold is Apple by controlling OS X, applications and the hardware will probably lead in the transition to a 3d interface...

Fumanchuchu, the Sony 23" display is absolutely gorgeous!, I'm enjoying this display more than any piece of tech equipment I've purchased.

Comparing it to the Apple Cinema HD Display I honestly think the Sony display is superior, I know it's hard to believe but I'm being perfectly objective in my opinion.

Personally I also like the casing better, it has a thin bezel around the display that makes it look very modern and sleek.

I like the idea that it has a 3 year warranty to Apples 1 year warranty which I think is way too short for an item like this.
