Yeah ok sorry if I came across a little annoyed there but take a serious look at how much money M$ would make from its games division porting games to the Mac. Not enough to make porting (and supporting) DX worthwhile.
Hey don't sweat it, AdvocateUK.
You're probably right about it not being worthwhile to port DX just for MS games alone. If they were to put together a PC-XBox-Mac game development libraries, MS could probably sell the libraries for 6 figures to any game company interested in it.
Heck, maybe ID (or someone) could develop some kind of cross-platform development libraries based on OpenGL and create some kind of PC-Mac-Linux-XBox tool. I'd think this could be a money & time saver for the game companies. Let the licensed libraries deal with the intricacies of each platform and let the developers get down to game coding.

Don't get me wrong, I'd LOVE to see DX ported to Mac. Hell if SJ wasn't so stubborn I'd bet we'd already have it! Simple fact of the matter is that M$ developed DX to make writing games for the PC that much easier (regardless of the fact that PC's crash every two minutes) and they aren't about to make it easy for the Mac to gain a foothold.
Now that the Xbox is here and Xbox2 is just around the corner M$ can leverage DX to provide for those too. M$ is simply in it for the money. I'd love to see them ditch the PC business and concentrate on DX/games as maybe then we'd see DX ported.
having said all that it'd take more than a direct port of DX to make porting DX games to Mac any easier. We'd need to see an entire development suite for the Mac.
OK I think I've said enough, the fact that I've recently sold my PC AND the fact that I've been drinking vodka for the last 2 hours probably means I should shut up any time now
Microsoft certainly do have a games division, and pretty productive one. They focus mainly on Xbox, as you would expect, and have come up with the likes of Mech Assault, Forza Motorsport, and the superb Crimson Skies.
Plus they have bought various external teams - Bungie and Rare most famously.
this machine would be good because people hate figuring out if a game will work on their computer. This machine would also have Word and other apps like that. Why don't you like the USB controller idea?

I'm not sure what you mean by USB controllers, but the XBox controllers are USB devices. There is even an app that will allow you to use XBox controllers on Apple computers (with an adapter to connect it to a USB slot).

this was in '96!!
Obviously the only reason it didn't work out was that they couldn't get the games for it.
