I hope you didin't buy the ram from Apple. You could save a couple hundred if you buy it from some where else.

    I did.

I just wanted to get the computer as my laptop fell of its iCurve ( the rubber pieces got hot and slipped off and I came home to find it on the floor. The poor computer is actually bent and has been taking 15mins to start up. Permissions have been fixed)

I saved a bundle with those monitors though 900 CND each.

    where would you buy ram?

Well, Apple wants $585 CDN to upgrade the RAM in that machine from 512MB (2x256) to 2GB (4x512).

You could have bought 4x512MB chips from Crucial, delivered in a day, including all taxes, for about $465 CDN.

You would have also had the original 512MB from Apple, so you would have had 2.5GB of RAM and saved $120. Enough for a 512MB iPod shuffle!

Yeah, Apple is a bit of a pig with RAM prices.

    Go for:

    Dual 1.8Ghz G5

    256MB RAM

    160GB HD

    Superdrive

    nVidia GeForce 6800GT

    Apple 20" LCD

    No Internal Modem

Bluetooth module & Airport Extreme Card

    Apple Care Protection Plan

$4892.00 (Added up on the Apple Store Canada).

Buy RAM afterwards at Crucial Ram Canada two 512 sticks at $84.79 a piece.

    Total 5061.58 Canadian Dollars.

The storage, screen and Dual G5s are plenty and a massive upgrade from your current spec. The GeForce 6800 will play games very nicely, but my advice it to wait for the X800 to become an option at the Canada store and get that instead, it runs better than the GT and costs the same.

    I'm not afriad.

Perhaps when this new computer gets here, you can come check it out, see the new office and we can go and sample some brews.

Sounds good. I hope you'll find that setup works for you.

A small request. Can you borrow or otherwise access a game console, any kind, so you could try how good it looks through one of the Benqs, vs using it on a regular decent television? I'm leaning towards a single 20" Benq setup myself (tight budget, space constraints) and it would be great if my PS2 could drive the screen. I don't have a TV so I currently play at my friend's place

And I guess people on this thread wouldn't mind a photo of your new setup when it arrives

Wow yeah I'lll see if I can borrow my Friends PS2 and I could also try the x-Box..

I just got the screens today.. one thing I didn't know about them was you can easily rotate the monitors so they are portrait rather than landscape.. so nice!!.. anyway when I get the whole thing I'll post the photos, so far I'm really happy and I haven't even turned them on..

again thanks all for your help on this.

    flick.

    ::EDIT::

Gon it looks great, you get compsite video in s-video, your laughing..

so I still haven't heard from apple about my shipment! do they usually wait till the last day to send these things?

    sheesh!!!

anyway I have it hooked up to my 12" Mac and the one monitor loks great. but the other one is blue as its just sitting there...

    APPLE HURRY!!

Ok its all here now and I have one of the Benq monitors plugged in. Let me tell you this dual2.0 with 2gigs of ram is a freaking work horse!

    For example:

    Installing The adobe creative suite

Transferring 22 gigs of MP3s via eathernet

and Playing Call to Duty at 1600x 1200 with most everything on full with ZERO lag..

I also had a bunch of Apps running (dreamweaver and fireworks to name two)

    I'm VERY impressed

anyway as soon as I find an ADC to DVI adaptor ( I can't believe they didn't send one with the computer) I'll have both monitors plugged in and I'll then take photos for you all to enjoy..

again thanks for everyone's suggestions your all were a big help, I'm very happy.

Oh man, I'm jealous. Post a few setup pics when you get a chance.

I'm keeping that offer in mind next time I'm out that way.

    Congrats, man.
