No... the dual 500s were better than the single 800 G3.

Whatever, I suppose you're not impressed.

If you don't understand, the point I am trying to get across is that DUALS ARE BETTER. Even when the single is a G4 instead of a G3. I bet disk performance has a lot to do with it too.

What are you winjin about people? the new 2x1.25 is a steal! if i spec it with GF 4 MX and include my student discount I can get it for under £1400 (thats around $2100 to US people) which is for an evily powerfull dual box that would have cost me over £2500 on monday!

If these machines are quieter then the old MDDs i'm picking one up a.s.a.p

Anyone knows about how noisy they are?

The 1.25 is the sweet spot.

For not that much than the original dual 867 the 1.25 offer a very substantial CPU boost along with a better graphical card and bigger HD. Were I am the academic deals make the difference in price between the two less than 100 US dollars! With the price of the 17" dropping 300 dollars the combo is acutally more than 200 dollars cheaper and that is pretty good.

    The lowend single 1GHz is to lame. A 1.25 would have been better. <img src="graemlins/hmmm.gif" border="0" alt="[Hmmm]" />

Let us all hope that this is the last G4 towers <img src="graemlins/cancer.gif" border="0" alt="[cancer]" />

What's the likelyness of being able to clock a Dual 1Ghz DDR to a Dual 1.25Ghz? Is it worth it for the speed increase?

I don't think it would be worth potentially ruining a PowerMac over. My dual 1GHz screamed when I had it...

So I won't be doing that. Also, I would also like to know what is the performance increase to be seen with the Radeon 9700 over the GF4Ti?

Its nice when the machine you bought hasn't been upgraded in 5 months and counting, yay for 17" iMacs.

You forget that there was a rebate before when you bought the PM and Display together. So, actually, the package is still a tad more expensive. The dual 867 & 17" cost you 1650+950-200=2400. The dual 1.25 & 17" is 1900+650=2550.

Also, many of the on-campus sellers were doing packages at the end of the semester where you could get the dual 867, a 17", and a 5GB all at subatantial discount.

But it's not nice since they should've been updated a while ago.
