    I was mostly being colloquial, but the North did win the Civil War because of some important factors, so I guess a distressed reaction is appropriate. Of course, I'm an immigrant's kid so the real affection towards 19th century American affairs just isn't there for me, and I'm currently more pleased with what remaining resolution there is in the South towards state's rights and small government than I am with the sentiment in the North for larger government and greater control, but to think that it wasn't inevitable for the 19th century North to have won the war is to be an imbecile. There are plenty of treasures in the South, perhaps including the ones evident from this thread. There is no reason to get worked up over a war 150 years concluded. The South has changed since then, and for the better.

    I always thought the american Civil War was referred to as "The Great Unpleasantness."



    Also, "poutine" probably means both prostitute and the gravy fries. "Puttanesca" is a southern italian pasta sauce, its name being synonymous with the whores who made it from the scraps of foods they could scavenge.

    Hot chocolate by me.



    4 ounce Valrhona dark chocolate

    0.25 gallon full cream milk

    4 ounce biodynamic cane sugar



    Heat milk and sugar to just before it boils. Pour over the chopped chocolate and stir. Leave on kitchen table for 12 hours and then keep in the refrigerator for 24 hours (develops the flavors).



    Heat gently and whip up 6 ounce double cream and serve with the chocolate. If you do the math you´ll end up with 200% of the fat (almost all saturated) and 50% of the carbs (almost all sugar) you´ll need for one day. Sometimes I drink this every day for a week.
