Just kidding Skatty! I'm sure you're quite the stud. But if anyone does know some decent PC media apps let me know. I'll try to lay off the Guiness but damn it's sooooo good.
I think Apple should split the apps up. At first it made sense to bundle them all together because iLife was $50 but now at $80 I see the problem with people wanting to use only 1 or 2 of the apps and looking at $80 as not quite the same value.
and it is this really great metadata program far faster than iPhoto (of course, since it doesn't insist on storing the pictures in its own database. HOWEVER, i'll never buy it because the price of admission is too high.
The link is alittle old but its the latest i could find
About Gamming It is pushing the Pc market alot.If it wasn't there never be faster and faster video cards,Faster and more all out war at times in the motherboard chipset market between via, sis, intel and nivida.Amd wouldn't be the choice of gammers for there cpu or alround bang for u buck in the pc market. The gammer market push the pc market to go faster in the consumer market and usally the pc gammer is very well imformed in what the good and bad for ppl when they ask what would i need for a XXXX dollar system for games, reg use, video rendering,cad/opengl work,etc..THey can pick out a great system for the money.
The cost of a apple system vs a pc is alot when u really look at hardware wise.Like AgNuke1707 said a 2000 dollar Imac should have more than a Fx5200 and u worried about heat a 9600pro with 128mb of ram will run in the same range of heat and power usage and it will kill the FX5200.My GF4ti4400 will.
One thing that hurt apple is there cpu upgradeablity on the g5 and ppl will ask upgrade a g5 cpu Why? I am think about 1 or 2 or 3 years down the road. How many mac users upgraded the g3's to g4 cpu upgrades and slow g4 to a much faster g4 without buying a whole new system.
G5 as it is your system don't have no cpu upgradeabity because of the idea of running the bus 1/2 of the cpu. Then there the bus that really make me wonder why when its a known fact a system well perform better with a 1 to1 ratio with the frontside bus to the ram exmaple a dual G5 2.5ghz on a 800mhz bus with dual channel DDR400 ram would perform better in most cases than the 1.25ghz bus with 800mhz ram like its now and u would have future upgrades when your old g5 is slowing down. That why Pc user always keep the memory the same speed of there fsb even when they overclock.
Well apple should give u alittle room for upgrading your cpu and yes apple loves when u buy new hardware. But even still you most likey spend a big amount of money already for your power mac.Just look at the pc market would u think it would of become such a massive market if every chip intel made and amd was only to fit in "this" board of there own and every speed bump needed a new board.
The g3\\4 was pretty upgradable on the cpu front and the g5 none
Explain to me how Apple would want customers to put in a faster G5 chip rather than buy a new system. How would this increase Apple's revenues?
Lot's of people base their buying decision on whether a computer is "upgradable". It's far more than actually ever upgrade their systems. I've had lots of people talked into buying Macs, and then they went and talked to some techie, and were told not to buy a Mac because they aren't upgradable.
It just makes people feel good about their purchase, to know that they can make it last longer by slipping in a little card. Nevermind if they ever do it.
I think this is a problem for the Mini and iMac, but I don't see how the Powermacs aren't upgradeable. Maybe I'm missing something, but what exactly would anyone upgrade a G5 with at this point? Another PPC 970? It took years, but the Powermac G4 had upgrade cards as soon as Moto was making CPUs that were worthy upgrades.
So how does this help Apple? Sell them on the idea of upgradeability, and then make the new computers so damn cool that nobody would want to keep their old Macs. This means updating Mac motherboards more often with better RAM, peripheral slots, bus speeds, etc.
I don't know if upgradeability would sell more iMacs, but my hunch is that it would, based on the experiences I've had trying to sell friends on Macs. If someone is spending over $1000 on something, they like to know it will last. And explaining that Apple is careful not to release OS updates that make their old hardware obsolete is useless - remember these people are used to dealing with Microsoft and Dell, corporations that just want to rape the consumer and are therefore never to be trusted. Actually Apple's about the same, but incrementally better!
Well G5 mac is upgradeable till u get to the cpu.Reason why apple/ibm went with the 1/2 speed of the cpu.But here the kicker when u start running your front side bus faster than your memory speed it don't get faster it gets slower performance.Becuase legacy of the cpu to fsb to the ram goes up + u gotta add the 2 fsb system off the g5 too.G5 dual 2.5ghz with 1.25ghz bus with dual channel ddr400(800mhz memory speed)Is slower than than g5 dual 2.5ghz on 800mhz bus's with dual channel ddr400 ram.If u don't belive me you ppl have a home built pc that newer some what with a xp or A64 or lucky ones with a P4ES chip.Put your fsb faster than your mem speed example 333mhz bus and 266memory./and or 266mhz bus with 333 or 400 mhz memory speed. But don't overclock your cpu.Do some benchmarks and games with frap's and the compare the scores.
My athlon xp on a 200mhz bus with 100mhz sdram is faster by about 5 to 10% at that setting than it is with 200mhz bus with 133mhz ram.
DDR2 is goin to be fazed it yes but its goin to because of intel sales.Amd is sticking with DDR of quite awhile longer because there at a point there chips don't need anymore memory banwidth and it cares about lower ram timing's.Samsung is pumping there DDr1 TCCD chips out the door thats can match ddr2 at the moment in mhz and still have lower cas ratings.
edit I know there no G5 2.5ghz on a 800mhz bus.My point was it works that way with amd and intel when dealing with the fsb and the memory.

/me nods. when looking for an iPhoto replacement, I found <a href="http://www.kavasoft.com/Shoebox/download/index.php">shoebox</a>

i guess i'll be using/cursing iPhoto 4 forever
Take iLife and add another new application to it. The market is getting very competitive.

might be worth your while to consider investing in a spell and grammer checker; at least.

Calling someone a nerd on a discussion forum about computer hardware that doesn't even exist? That's a new one!
I think we can safely assume that anyone and everyone who posts here would be considered nerds by the jock/cheerleader crowd. And that's a good thing.
