Sorry I had to do it...

    Did anyone actually count them?

I've read through most of the list...
  • Reply 7 of 31
I had Tex-Edit count them for me. Assuming that Apple is counting every item in the list with bold type as a separate new feature, there are 222.

That one seems kind of cheap to call a new feature. meh. whatever.

    Did anyone actually count them?

I've read through most of the list...

    I did. I counted 48...

    Indeed.

I also find it odd that they don't mention Core Data on this list, which in my opinion is one of the most important new features.

I don't get it. How can Xcode2.0 contain GCC4 when GNU hasn't even released it yet?

    It's magic.

Apple are helping develop the PPC version of GCC, as I understand it, and they've decided their branch is ready to go. I can't quickly find links to explain exactly what their relationship with the GCC developers is. :P

Apple's been a pretty core contributor to gcc for the past couple of years. The new distributed build and global pause/restart? Started as Apple's pre-compiled headers project, then went crazycool into something quite different. As I understand it, they had a big hand in the new internal representation as well, and they spearheaded the PPC optimizations. They also have been working closely with the IBM group doing autovectorization, since they both have a vested interest in AltiVec being better supported and utilized.

It wouldn't surprise me that they made sure the PPC branch was solid before the GNU folks had a chance to have *all* branches be solid enough for a final release.

Remap modifiers such as control and caps lock to be super elite.

With Tiger, even regular mortals can be teh Super Elite now!

Do Preview and Safari have the ability to print pages with footers and headers? I absolutely HATE how neither of these apps can print page numbers - as if Mac users never view or print anything longer than a single page.

On a Windows machine, one can even print from Explorer while choosing to append a page number, date, and even link to the header and/or footer of each printed page. It's some pretty radical stuff.

    Makes sense. Good point!

Here's looking forward to GCC4 compiled, G5 optimized Firefox! That's sure to rock! Pre-ordered mine!

I'm 99.997% certain that Core Data is there - after all Apple has been pushing the developers to start implementing it since WWDC2004 at least. There are probably tons of new APIs under the hood, none of which would make much sense to mere mortals, and so are not mentioned in Apple's publicity info.
