re; the itunes "widget" and extra clicks...

wasn't the whole concept of docklings (remember those?) and dock item menus supposed to fix this? yet no one really used either concept to their full (or even half) potential... except the itunes team.

    Again, I say: OSX?

It made a veritable shit ton of hardware and software completely and totally useless with the click of a mouse.

Isn't the whole point of the dashboard widgets that you can't access the iTunes controller when they're activated? That is, if you're doing something in Dashboard and want to control itunes, you don't have to switch back?

Ideology? What ideology? Oh, maybe you should also cut the humor because it's not funny.

    That being said:

But I guarantee you all have been working in parallel for well over two years on the same tech. No time to copy or derive from each other.

Now that you guarantee it, I can sleep better. I wish I'd known this before. Very useful information. Everybody is innovating at the same time, just some of them have been having it for at least a year, while others, well, they are gonna release it April 29th.

Yep. You guarantee it. Case closed.

There see, you're learning. Sarcasm. It works better when the facts are correct though. Google desktop search has only been 1.0 for a couple months. Beta's and still not-ready-for prime-time open source code don't make a year head start. Downloading a WinXP Google beta but being disappointed that you don't have access to Tiger Spotlight beta which has been seeding since last summer doesn't cut it.

yes. when i think of it in those terms it makes sense, as long as itunes still operates the same as it alwas has in mini mode.

i haven't used tiger at all yet, so this may very well be the case.

Which ones? I've seen no facts from you, just opinions, and oh, yes, guarantees.

GCC 4.0 shipping with Tiger is Beta software. But that doesn't matter right? No, it's Tiger.

And the fact that it says 'Beta' on Google Desktop Search doesn't mean anything: Google is known for keeping their software in Beta form for years: Gmail even is still in Beta.

And Beagle is Beta too, and shipping with SuSE Professional 9.3 this month. Although that too, doesn't matter, since you guaranteed everything and it must be so.

With regard to me not getting Spotlight or something to that extent: I did not, don't need, and I won't get Spotlight, not for the time being, and I don't plan on upgrading a solid install right now. I will get it though, sometime in September or so, because I'll make use of it in college.

But unlike apologists and not-so-funny people like yourself; I don't consider Spotlight the height of my life, and I don't think that a product that has been seeded to specific developers has the same level of maturity as a product that is open for download, for anyone and everyone - like Google Desktop Search.

Now, if you'll excuse me, I'll have to end this little conversation with you here because it's getting a little off track and has nothing to do with the topic.

That was about the shoddiest display of debating skill I have seen in years. Proving the other guys post while displaying plenty of righteous indignation. Well at least you color yourself with your own brush. Now we all can see it for what it is.

I see that you like to use big words, but using big words requires big facts to back them up.

Tell me, show me, illuminate me how Spotlight is an innovation, and, er, Dashboard too, and I'll agree with you and admit my mistake[s]. Don't judge my debating skills, show yours. I haven't seen them still. The facts. The stuff. That makes your point valid. The facts.

How, when, where, why - that's what I'm looking for, not your judgement on my debating skills.

    Thanks.
