Macintel ain't bad. I kinda like Apptel too. Still, the suggested "Nipple" in another thread is the best yet (sorry I can't give credit, don't know who it was). Apple's developer documentation refers to them as "Intel-based Mac", but that's no fun. I agree that Apple shouldn't call them anything different than they do today. Mostly because it doesn't matter, and also because I feel the transition is going to be so smooth that most consumers aren't even going to notice unless you make them think they have something they need to be concerned about.

I suppose they go with Intel processor codenames.

    New Powerbook will be called

Powerbook Yohna or how this proposed all new

Intel laptop processor is called. That simple.

    The All New Apple iiBook

Until recently we had the TiBooks

Now this might transition over to

The All New dual core Apple AiBooks

We might even be seeing The All New Apple iPad

Well, that depends on what you can think up. Of course, it is not spelled the same, but I would hate to see the new machines referred to as IneMas.

Apple should no longer use the 'Power' name in it's high-end products now that the new machines will no longer have any 'Power' in them anyway. How about PentiMac and PentiBook?

Apple's new slogan can now be 'Nothing Different Inside' or 'Think Conformity'

Also, Intel has always 'requested' that there hardware partners (Dell, HP, etc.) have a 'Intel Inside' sticker on there machines. Where will Apple put this sticker? They could just incorporate it into the Apple logo I guess.

Now that Apple has partially moved to the dark side, can't they take it even one step further and finally come out with a 2-button mouse.

For those of you that read 'Joy of Tech', I am still on step 2. :-)

If you don't open the box of the Intel mac, you will not see any difference in a user experience point of vue, with a PPC Mac.

You gain more or less peformants in some aeras, but that's all. Unlike car, a CPU is just about performance and nothing else.

But I like to open the box, Once the warranty runs out I start swapping out parts. I think the big "intel inside" sticker may be a dead give away though.

And when you will open the box, you will discover the classical clean design that is the signature of Apple's products.

The only difference will be the CPU logo : is this, that horrible ?

Huh? Where will be no "Win" in these boxes. Just because Apple is switching to use the Intel processor does not put anyone running a Mac into a Wintel experience. Far from it. Remember, it is only the processor that is changing. If you sat down with two Macs side-by-side in a year, not knowing which had what processor in it, your experience would probably be the same. In fact, I would bet that your experience in a year would be better on the Intel box. We will still be running OS X. What is powering it is just different.

Yes, I use a WinXP box. I have used macs and apples since the very early days, and I love 'em to death. Why do I use windows? Games and win-specific apps. I've tried virtual pc, but honestly, I'm not satisfied with the performance, especially in any intensive app such as a game. This intel deal will finally give me the opportunity of dual-booting or running winXP in a window on the mac system. No more buying a PC and then thinking about getting a powermac. No more being disappointed in the Powerbook's craptastic performance.

I'll be buying the Powermacintel as a server/gaming machine/desktop for the first time in a lifetime. I'll be buying one of the fastest laptops in a lifetime. All because of the intel deal.

So STFU and stop complaining that the Intel deal is the worst thing to happen to Apple. It's actually one of the greatest things to happen and will finally make Apple competitive with the PC world (yeah, go ahead and STFU about 15 year old talking points if you're gonna respond).
