Jobs acted like a wuss on cnbc today

Job's usually acts very confident and positve when he interviewed but his recent interview today on CNBC he looked nervous and had a pretty poor reasons for switching to intel and over supply of ipods in retail outlets.

He looked like he just came out the lions den where a bunch of pissed-off developers took him to task.

Just wait until the webcast of the keynote and see if people boo or not. I'm kind of curious about this myself.

Im sure developers were very respectful in public, but its those 'behind closed doors' meetings where jobs gets ripped to shreds by those main developers who are not convinced this is a positive move.

I'm still stunned that this was the best spin they could put on the whole thing. There are a whole list of questions that didn't even seem to be touched on that are critical to the success of this, both for consumers and developers.

Basically, Jobs just stood up and said, "Our current machines suck, we were wrong, sorry if you don't use xCode but you're hosed."

Vague references to future plans just don't cut it. And why now, when Mac sales were just beginning to go up?

    ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ?

There was a lot left to be answered, and the 60 minute keynote didn't do much to give me a warm fucking fuzzy. Of course, I didn't actually see it, so I just am reacting to what is known or was told through news sites.

Curious to see if Apple even puts it on their QT list. No mention of anything Intel on their site as of now (4 hours after keynote). Usually, Apple takes the store down and posts a PR release the same day. Quite silent. It is just so damn confusing.

edit: there is a blurb on www.apple.com/pr/

Basically, it says that they are releasing Intel-based model Macs next year and their entire lineup will be all Intel in 2007.

At least they clarified one of my questions but I had to go looking for the answer. Just be upfront, take the sales hit-in-the-nads, and release Intel Macs ASAP!

Actually the press release was available at the bottom of Apples Hot News page During the Keynote.

It's called OS X Leopard and will likely be numbered 10.5.

I'm so tired of hearing this. Sorry for the caps, but read:

APPLE WILL NOT MAKE THE NEXT VERSION OF OS X EXCLUSIVELY FOR INTEL BASED MACHINES.

Make an argument, or better yet provide a link where Apple promises this. Just typing it in caps doesn't make it true. I suspect you are right, but until Apple puts it in writing, your speculation is no better than anyone elses.

The argument has been made in a ton of other threads. How many people will own Intel based Macs when 10.5 debuts? Most likely 0, if it comes out next year, which it will.

See, but you make an error right there. The MacTel machines will come out by this time next year. Apple will only begin discussing 10.5 at that time. Jobs specifically said that in the keynote. That means that MacTel machines will have been shipping for probably at least a year before 10.5 comes out.

Chances are you are right. But I'm sick of pro-Apple people just assuming that all will be well, that everything Jobs said should be taken as gospel, etc.

I wasn't aware I was coming off like a pro-apple/jobs sycophant. I basically called him a liar in another thread, because Apple has basically been lying to every single user since the G5 came out.

Sorry, I'm guilty of the same crime I was accusing you of. We've both just seen the same argument too many time. Forgive me.

Apple would be really stupid to not make 10,5 for both platforms. It will be the best way to piss, current mac owners, in fact to piss the vast majority of his customers. Of course stupidity is not an argument, but Apple should not go to far or he will loose all his consumer base.

I am more concerned about Altivec future, I fear that all this legacy will be lost forever. That's really bad for developpers, who have spent a lot of time with it.

If Apple wants to sell ANY machines the next year from now, they better make 10.5 ppc compatible!!

If not, alle machines bought until then would be practically dead junk from then on.

Interesting to hear about Jobs'RDF weakening :-)

well, this was/is/will be a TRUE test of his RDF. he looked a bit nervous when he first came on the stage at wwdc, but lightened up a bit towards the end as he saw his RDF still in effect. somewhat drained, but still effective.

this will require RDF to be set on '11' ... and his ballsy moves have taken a toll on him, he looks a little 'cracked out' ~ you know, slightly skinnier, grayer, a bit more veiny... poor steve. fight on brotha !!

10.5 will likely be the last OS to support PowerPC (and Intel).

10.6 will be Intel only and legacy users will have to either live with 10.5 or go buy some shiny new hardware.

Sales of current PPC models will take a nosedive and 3rd party developers for the platform will dry up.

Pure speculation by the way... but quite possible \
