That's what I mean, Apple had to get developers clued in way in advance of any hardware being released.

It would have been nice to hear some Intel hype such as 'G6 on the way, dual core blahdy, blah...' That could have sweetened the pill for some people. All we got was,'..and we'll be sticking Intel into the Macs.'

you know what i think steve's biggest gaff in all this was? not webcasting the event live.

seriously, the way he presented it was WAY less worrisome than it read in the rss feeds i was looking at online. also, the crowd reaction was fairly genial during the entire thing, and the "oohs, aahs" when he revealed he had been presenting on an intel mac all morning was good too.

unfortunately, all we got were bullet points and the ensuing echo chamber effect as rumor sites and news sites all started wondering out loud if this was a mistake.

Good point re: media hype versus the apparently reality of the situation. However, considering how people are getting their panties in a bunch over Rosetta (a last resort), CodeWarrior projects that need to be transitioned, fat binaries and whatnot, it probably made sense to keep a lot fot he relatively nitty-gritty stuff mostly within the developer community. While developers have expertise or at least a good conceptual understanding of the issues and the impact of these things, a lot of us laypeople don't fully grasp what was being said in that keynote. Obviously, the media is full of people like me too we've seen enough mistakes put out there by analysts and reporters wrestling with what they saw.

Totally agree. I was amazed by how well he got through (even though he was obviously bricking it at certain points). I guess this is why they didn't do it live, just in case the developer reaction was much worse.

Steve really does have the RDF thing worked out to a tee. The man is remarkable.
