an updated mini, with some super specs, would provide the best quick-check to see if people will continue to buy apple hardware during this transition period until intel macs appear.

heh heh i know what you're saying brotha'...
ultimately though, selling ppc macs is still considered apple's core business, not an R&D activity
IMHO
for the july-sep 2005 quarter, i think they can't afford to take the risk, end of june they WILL have to bring out some juicy Mac mini and iBook deals, possibly other price cuts and new iPod models. the real big guns may come out at the end of sep 2005 (paris expo), good stuff to bring the christmas buying season to a nice frenzy, and then macworld sf2006 in january, start the year of fresh with Intel Mac announcments.
Tiger was good for april-june 2005 quarter, but may taper off july-sep quarter so EDU back-to-school season is important now.
i have now a strong feeling about Mac mini updates within a few weeks and iBook updates soon after. since the grapevine has withered and died, it's all guesses, speculation, and gut feeling for us poor mac pundits.
apple seemes to have super-glued its product release leaked info holes tightly shut
mmhm, I hope they will release their new updates/products. your layout of about when events might happen is very logical. Now with Intel chips, perhaps Intel might even do some new advertising next year...

thanks dude...
re: Mactel
i think apple and intel are definitely aiming for Jan/Feb 2006 for major announcements, demos, shipping products by end of Feb. With the industry, consumers, analysts and shareholders so impatient, i simply cannot see Apple doing well in Jan-Mar quarter of 2006 without some super-kickass PPC product or an announced Mactel. the only thing is that the first few Mactels have to be spot on or Apple is fucked... not in the sense of 'out of business' fucked, but in the sense of not meeting everybody's (including idiot reporters and the like) super-high expectations of Apple...
.........
apple PR and marketing are biting their nails as we speak, and will proabably do so for the rest of the year. poor bastards... actually, they're probably well taken care of, or maybe not
Comments
Still, I hope to see Apple keeping the line fresh.
