Realistic Wishlist for new PowerBooks
Since I saw the thread for the new iBook wishlist (here), I figured I might as well start another for the new PowerBooks.
So:
- What features do you think will be/would you like to see in the new PB's?
- When do you think we'll see a new PB?
- And a few other things to consider:
New case design?
What will differentiate the PBs and the iBooks?
What updates to the PBs do you think we'll see between now and the release of the intel-PBs?
What differences do you think there will be among the different PBs in the line (ie: 12" PB vs: 17" PB)?
Price?
Enjoy!

1) Widescreen 12" or 13" PowerBook
2) Higher resolutions on all screens, e.g., 12" -> 1280x768
3) 128MB VRAM standard
4) PCIe graphics - mobile versions of Radeon X600 or GeForce 6600
5) Faster processor! 7448 @ 1.8GHz minimum (maybe Apple will be able to push them further given their own requirements versus those of the 'embedded' market)
6) Maybe slightly slimmer or lighter
If 3 of these occur, then it won't be all bad for the PowerBook.
-better screens (higher resolution and better picture quality)
-faster processor / faster FSB
-optical audio across the line
-removable bays for extra battery or cd/dvd
-have it run a little cooler
-better graphics card
2) Higher resolution screen
3) Good graphics card
-HD display.
-Better video chipset.
-Yonah
-Full featured CPU chipset, including support for surround sound.
-Blue-Ray Superdrive.
Ok it's not realistic but some of it is. Apple won't do this because they're afraid of making hardware that's actually competitive on its own, without OS X holding its hand.

I agree with JD, with a few corrections...
-Two button trackpad.
-17" HD display.
-nVidia QuadroFX Go 1400 PCI Express GPU
-Yonah dual-core 64-bit CPU
-Full featured CPU chipset, including support for 7.1 surround sound.
-Superdrive w/Blue-Ray & HD-DVD support
But some will say it is not enough, calling out for a 20" HD display and dual GPUs with SLI-enabling...

Other things I've been saying for a long time:
- ultra-smart battery charger (it can be done)
- 100Wh of batteries, be they swappable or not.
Other things I've been saying recently:
- Multicore Intel chip with revamped FPU and 2 beefy VPUs per core.
All I really want is wide-screen for the 12". Everything else would be a pleasant bonus.
I don't know if Apple would make a widescreen smaller then 13.3"

If they gave it the resolution of the current 15" PB display, it would be almost perfect.

wouldnt carbon fibre allow much better heat disipation... i kno you can put a carbon fibre muffler on a motor cycle so it wont burn the passengers leg when they are gettin of the bike.
20" HD display PB lapzila.
expandable to two hard drive bays.
Speed increase is a given. So that's why I only ask that.

Carbon fiber is worse at dissipating heat than most things. Thats why it's good for exhaust pipes, where you want to keep the exhaust gas temperature as high as possible in order to keep the pressure low and the flow fast. A CF powerbook would make cooling more difficult as it is a great insulator.

What's this obsession with carbon fiber? I hear about this one for some years now. What is so great that keeps people still talking about it?
I think it looks sorta neat, def don't want it on PB though.
