Underneath my kitchen sink a leak formed between the bottom of the sink and the white plastic piping attached to it.
Roto rooter came by and took off the bad piping and put in a new strainer, trap, and tailpiece. He used copper pipe directly under the sink and attached to it is the curved pipe which looks to be made of steel.
I see you got plenty advises here, i need to share my opinion, i had exactly the same problem. I was troubled for two months about a weird leak that kept getting bigger. I found out about copper sinks, and now i know they are much more reliable. It's strange about the steel though, you should get a plumber, he'll give you the right advice.
I believe that you would have been better off with them just replacing the PVC. I build homes here in SWFL and thats all we use and theres no problems.

A cheap TV in the kitchen?
no room. Luckily i can see the TV in the living room from where I sit, although I usually like to read while I eat.
