There may be enough causal evidence to at least send the threatening letter. Infact does Apple need any legal grounds to send you or I the threatening letter?? I would think that just being associated with this would get the threatening letter, they don't have to ask a judge, tey just say that if you continue to do this you may (key word) may be subject to legal action. They are accusing you of maybe being part of a crime. Apple does not determine wheather you are guilty or not, that is for the courts. Infact Apple legal could be sited with neglegence, if they don't at least try to shut this down, unless they are dragging their feet. Couldn't they say that the directions that are being given only work on a pirated copy of their software and to that end you were indirectly helping people that were violating the law. Kind of like owning a crackhouse, you live some where else but law breakers are using your property to hide their illegal activities, again Apple can threaten.

Apple and SJ may not like this much and of course these seeded leaks will not be optimized, but it shows CLEARLY that users want OSX.

Any move by Apple to stop this now is like trying to stop an avalanche

    with a spoon.

The time has come for Apple to take on Microsoft and Linux and while doing so,

continue to offer the finest hardware available.

It's certainly a shot across the bow of M$ warship, But it wouldn't surprise me if all this was orchestrated by apple, as people have mentioned to get people on board the OSX wagon. It explains the lack of action from apple legal.

i can see the mactels having some specialised hardware, better than the current rom thing. That will see an end to this.

One of the best ideas I heard was a fully authorized, but limited trial version of

OSX that allowed the x86 users to try out the basics without supporting any major professional applications.

I'm not sure what essentials should be included in such an offereing, but

certainly Microsoft Office trial would show those fearful of change that

    there's nothing to fear.

my take on it is that when mactels are out they wont clamp down too hard on these hacks, just as linux on ipod is not really sealed off.

given the amount of work to get os x intel now and presumably in the future to run on a generic box, i doubt it will really hit mainstream in any way yet perhaps encourage more and more people to look at the official apple-intel boxes.

it would be a fun hack but i still use 10.4 to get stuff done, hacking around to get even a 90% functional os X on dell box is cool but kinda counter-productive in its own way.

but who knows, once an official tiger 10.4.5 or so universal binary dvd is out it may be easier than one suspects to get os x on your beige box

Some would argue that MS Windows is even more counter productive

even though it's fully optimized for the system it's on

It may be easy for someone to write a few patches that will allow full x86 support. As far as optimized goes, there is nothing to prevent that, in fact the amount of people adding tweaks to BSD x86 code is totally huge in comparison to what it was like for the PPC. If Apple was using GCC to compile OSX for x86, and why wouldn't they, then there is already allot of work already done in the compiler.
