I thought I'd drege up this old thread to see what people are thinking now that reason 2.0 is out and Apple's bought Emagic. Does a beginner pull out the credit card for reason or wait to see what Apple's got up its sleeve? I'm really beginning to get into Reason now that it's OSX native, but I'm frustrated that I can't save. I guess that's why I would buy it. Any places with educational discounts? TIA.
edit: and the damn AI search DOES NOT work. I typed music and my username into the search page, knowing that I'd only used 'music' in the software forum a handful of times and nothing came up. I had to dig through 10 pages of threads to find this one. Stupid UBB.
torifile. I'm thinking about getting Reason 2.0 as well. I'm not really into Techno music so I'd be trying different styles. The thing I like is it will somewhat show you how "virtual" gear is linked and how to modify the sounds. That's something you just can't do as well with other apps. Also with rewire once I move to DP or Logic I might be able to easily run Reason concurrently and that is cool. Do you ever check out Harmony Central I love this site ...lot's of info ...decent forums and discussion. I've already been hipped to the "bang for the buck" devices and more. check it out.
Got Reason, now I need a way to get my electric guitar into my computer. How do I do this? Some sort of USB audio/midi thingy? What's the best/cheapest way to go? TIA.
I would recommend Soundtrack, I played with the stand-alone version and it is really nice. If you need something more than soundtrack try something from Emagic. Here is a video of what you can do with Soundtrack (these are just the basics though) http://www.apple.com/soundtrack/quicktour/loops.html

what amp are you using? are you gonna mic the amp or go direct? what program are you using to record?
REASON is always a good choice (I love it!), alot of abilities for the creative who doesn't got alot of hardware equipment other than MIDI-controllers like your friend.
You can more or less easily create an infinity of unique sound(scapes), loops, instruments and etc.,
Don't know about Soundtrack, maybe the two can be combined?

I downloaded the demo of Reason and it seems pretty good (and complicated). I'm sure it just takes some getting used to.
They sell an OS X compatible tutorial that quickly explains the basics. I was baffled by the sequencer till I used the tute.

If you could use reason seemlessly with soundtrack that is. Where it stands now, you COULD use the two together but it wouldn't be that practical.
