I believe and hope not. The last Mac mini "update" was barely an update in the common sense. Furthermore, if the rumor proves to be true, this would probably indicate a new update scheme from Apple (gradual updates). There are many that would prefere that instead of the old practice of big updates, after months and months of stagnation.
at least the gradual updates means every 1 or 2 months there is something "new" from apple to discuss, analyse, dissect, reverse-engineer, hack and of course, essential to our existence, to complain about
rather than *painfully* waiting every 3-5 months for the next thing from apple... hopefully this will also make one more satisfied with one's mac knowing its light years ahead of any other [consumer] os out there, AND there is no point bitching about how crappy one's hardware is since it will be made obsolete every few months
I called one of the largest resellers of Apple products in the UK (John Lewis) to ask if they had the Mac mini in stock - thsy didnt, so I asked when they expected more in stock. He checked and eventually said they wouldn't be getting any more of the Mac mini. I thought this odd at the time - until I saw this rumour the next day. Taken with this rumour, it makes perfect sense, as the current mini is effectively discontinued and would no longer be available.
Just got of the phone with Apple. They canceled the order without a problem. The apple care had already shipped, but we can apply it to the new model when we get it.
Of course, since we canceled the order the rumor will probably turn out to be false...
Res did you ask what the policy was if say you ordered the mac mini and a new model came out? i'm wondering what Apple call centre is saying the policy is nowadays...

No, I did not ask them that. I just asked if the order had shipped yet and since it had not if I could cancel it. (I also told them why I was canceling it and they would neither confirm or deny the truth of the rumor).

Well, there is at least one confirmation that the rumor is true. It is too much of smoke without fire .
touche. at least we'll always have, "but its not integrated graphics with shared memory" to help us sleep at night.
That is my main worry when Apple move over to Intel.
I have no problem with Intel CPU's (or other mobo components), they are definitely better than the G4 and by the time the G5's move over, Intel will have CPU's worthy of replacing IBM's ageing processor.
My worry is Apple cutting costs and using Intel's Integrated graphics chips. Where as I and probably any other Mac buyer who buys an entry level Mac actually would want the latest entry level GPU from nVidia or ATi. And I'm sure they would be willing to stump up the small amount of extra cash for the privilege.

Have apple define a price for each part in a certain model and then upgrade that part as soon as something better falls in that price category!!
Be more like Dell, apple

Yes but the 9200 is practically an 8500 which is so 2001 if I remember correctly.
I posted this in another forum.
