Since everyone asked, I thought i'd give you guys an update.
I received my brand spanking new iMac on Monday. I am so glad I returned the refurbished Rev B unit. This one feels just as fast and I love all the new features, although ironically, it's the Mighty Mouse that I get the most use out of. I also play with a ton of Dashboard widgets. (My favorites are the Oregon Coastal webcams and the Washington ferryboat webcams. Yeah, I love the Pacific Northwest... what can I say.)
Front Row is cool, but has a few glitches in it, which I'm sure Apple will work out over time. The built in iSight is cool, too, but I haven't had much opportunity to use it extensively yet.
Interesting comparison: the refurbished unit's fan had an annyoing whine that drove me absolutely crazy. The new unit's fan makes the case buzz slightly early in the morning, but once the iMac warms up, the sound becomes an almost imperceptible hum. Not perfect, but much, much better.
The best part of the entire experience is the fact that a friend of mine who just started working for Apple called me up (totally out of the blue) and asked if I was still in the market for a new iMac. Upshot: I got it at a hefty discount. AND I'm still eligible for the $100 rebate on the multifunction Canon printer I purchased with it.
So, I'm a very happy Mac owner right now. Yes, the new machine is worth it.
It's always a blast when Apple brings this kind of satisfaction to us electronic geeks! I only hope that as they grow, their commitment to this type of expierence remains or is greatly improved upon.
