I don't think Dvorak expects the everyday computer user (Mac or Win) to be a tech expert. The point he was making is that these people who claim to be tech reporters only know as much tech as the Mac has -- which, let's face the fact that you don't have to be as technologically savvy to be an effective Mac user.

His ultimate point was that if these journalists are going to report on tech, they need to know the tech to get write an adequate story. That tech knowledge isn't (as) important for the everyday user. If your journalistic tech world is limited to Macs and you're supposed to report on MS tech, you need to know more.

"This reality is not going to change. In fact it will only get worse as technology coverage is handed to newer, less-qualified observers who simply cannot use a Microsoft Windows computer."

heh. if the writers all had winXP64 with Avast4.6 antivirus all preinstalled on their AMD64s/Turion64s and using OpenOffice 2 and Firefox 1.x then yes, they would be able to simply use a Microsoft Windows computer. otherwise, XP vanilla, microsoft office, and internet explorer all collude to present a diabolical package of pain and frustration to the user.

If we go this way, we can said that journalists are badly reporting unix OS. Unix is much more complicated than windows.

Oh wait, mac os X is unix based

Interesting describtion, while it may be a little true in the eyes of some, one must also consider that he often says what no one else in the industry (Industry != community) really wants to face, like DRM is a royal screw job, most cell phones are utter crap, convergance isnt a great idea, OSX86 WILL be HUGE on the beige box underground...so much so that Apple will have to face it. Movie theaters stink when we have HDTVs at home,

Hell, way the hell back in 2003, he was warning of the trusted computing initive, everyone laughed at this after the P3 backlash, but we are about ready to get it rammed down out throughts with the Intel Macs and Windows Vista and not to mention the few linux distros that are allegedly playing nice with the consortium now...

He may be an ass, but he isnt a dumbass

Recently on a live TWITcase, Dvorak played with the iPod for the first time. It was interesting that he was pretty silent and generally said only positive things.

I think he avoided it on purpose so he could still stand back and stir the pot. That and he didn't get sent a free one.

Either way, I think the other twitters are generally positive on Apple and will school him.
