any setting that is found in the dvd player.app's menu system and not a dvd menu
ie: If I wanted to change the scan rate
ie: If I wanted to change the video zoom
ie: If I wanted to change the video quality
ie: If I wanted to turn deinterlacing on or off
ie: If I needed to change the audio output option from analog to digital out
ie: ie: if i wanted to change the audio equalizer settings
I should not have to menu my way back out of frontrow to do any of those things when front row itself is using dvd player to play the movie and just making the menu unaccessible
Apple isn't quite there yet - for example, the fast forward button on the remote doesn't seem to skip chapters as it would in a regular remote, it only fast forwards.
A fast forward button should fast-forward when you keep it pressed, and skip a chapter when you press it once. Is it not so with the iMac remote?
Oh, for a lot of them yes, but I just want to access them with my MOUSE without having to quit front row.
Hmmm, mouse... yeah, if you put together the remote and the mouse, then a much simpler solution could be materialized. The drawback is that such a solution would only make sense with a wireless mouse, which is not included in the standard configuration.

I don't understand what you are saying. There is no reason if Front Row is just launching DVD Player why I can't use the mouse to change a setting in DVD Player without quiting frontrow.

I understand what you can and cannot do, I was asking you what, specifically, you were trying to do in your example above. The reason I ask is that most people don't normally fiddle with those kinds of things while watching a DVD on a DVD player hooked up to a TV in the real world, and that seems to be what Frontrow is trying to emulate.
But you clarified that you didn't want to do these things with the remote, but from the computer. That certainly makes sense to me.
well, it's just annoying. i like to zoom the dvds to fullscreen to fill up the screen. some of my dvds also have poor video or sound mixes so sometimes i'll adjust them a bit. and i also had to change the audio output settings once.
its just inconvenient and unapple.
i can live with it, but it just doesn't work as it should and you expect it to, and that's what apple's always been about

All I am saying is that your idea makes more sense when you use a wireless mouse, since you run FrontRow from a distance from the computer. Not that it does not make sense .
For example, while in FrontRow, you could by moving your mouse pointer to one corner bring forth the DVD Player settings Ã* la FrontRow (with magnified and fancy graphics and text), and do from there your job.
So a minor new update of Frontrow is out now. Anyone have a chance to look at it yet?
[edit] One thing I noticed is that when it opens an app like iTunes, it now leaves it hidden rather than sitting in front when you get out of Frontrow.

OK, thanks, it is clear now. However, being able to access the features you talk about, would probably require a more complicated remote.

Maybe he's not talking about DVDs. It skips chapters for me.

It makes FrontRow look like a cheap hackjob

Brilliant Display (I have chosen 20" iMac), Good Speakers and Frontrow works fine.
But, today denies to start up. What is going on?
Ok, Apple is Apple but I don't accept a 1600 Euro's machine to be unable to work from the 1st day of use.
