Oops, my bad. Initially I moved all my crap from my PC. Everything added up to 20 GB.

At my workplace, USB ports often get broken during moves from one cubicle to the next. The workstation manufacturer refused to replaced them since it is NOT a defect of their product. So our temp solution is USB hub... But anyway, those USB ports are fragile.

Have fun w/ your new iBook!

One other thing: If you are a risk taker, look into the refurbish models. Slightly used, no factory smell, and an Apple tech verified that every refurbish models are working.

If you wanna save a few more pennies, check it out.

One detail though. The actual capacity of a drive advertised as being 80 GB, would be around 74.5 GB after formatting. Keep in mind that this is not something Apple specific, but the result of a common practice used today by hard drive manufacturers to count capacities in the decimal system (where 1000 bytes = 1 KB) and not in the binary (where 1024 B = 1 KB).

yea-i know that drives capacities vary from the advertised capacity. my ipod does the same thing. so does everything sound good?

Oh yea-one last question: Whats the easiest way to transfer my music and files to my new computer from my imac? i think im going to be getting my ext hard drive for my birthday, which is in january, but i want to be able to transfer the stuff over right when i get the ibook. i know i could get the files over by using my ipod (just open it in disk mode and drag-n-drop) but need to get my music on my ibook too. i know there's apps that let me transfer music from ipod to computer, but i want something that will let me save my playlists without having to remake them all (i have all my albums saved as separate playlists). if there isnt a way to do that then its ok. i just was hoping the was. thanks!

If I were you, I would get the following setup:

    1. New iBook out with 1.5 gigabytes of RAM (buy extra 1GB stick from Crucial or another supplier to get the most value)

    2. Buy a Seagate external hard drive for inexpensive, fast Firewire performance. The drive model I'd recommend (got 3 of them currently in use) is the "3.5 pushbutton backup external storage hard drive" here:

    http://www.seagate.com/products/reta...al/usbfirewire

It's available in 200, 300 and 400 GB versions, and very fast yet inexpensive.

So you think i should stay with the standard internal hard drive?

I think he is saying to get an external hdd. Personally, I would get the firewire cable and use Migration Assistant to move your files. Migration assistant is so easy and makes your new computer like your old one.

I use an external hdd and clone it with SuperDuper and then use migration assitant on my new mac. A little more involved and time wasteing.

I left the ram off of my Apple order and picked up a 1 gig stick from Crucial.com. Since you get a discount from Apple, congrats on being a military brat (my mom was), I would work the price both ways to see which way you come out on top. The ram is a 5 minute install and is simple.

Good for you going with the 80 GB hdd. A good compromise and well worth it. I just wish I had a super drive and I won't put one in because of all the screws. However, I have mod'ed my iMac G5 out.

Yeah, and two macs. I assume it will work with Jaguar but I have no idea. It worked with a Panther Mac to a new Tiger Mac. I would hit the Apple : Tiger Website and check it out.
