Ok, what if I do RAID 1 and then I need more than 500GB later. Can I turn off RAID so I can get the extra storage?
Well, with RAID 1 you can take the two hard drives out and use them seperately if needed as regular drives (no raid), so you would have two 500GB hdd's with the exact same info on each, you're welcome to format and erase all info on one if you'd like. If you want to still use the RAID format after adding extra storage, you best bet would be to buy 2 more 500GB disks, and setup a RAID 01 array (which kicks some major ass). I built a PC for my brother-in-law a couple years ago and setup a RAID 01, and it has undoubtedly superior performance to a normal setup. If you have anymore questions just let me know, I've setup quite a few of these.
