What IS true is that Amazon is not representative of the buying public today. Amazon is used by people comfortable with online shopping, early adopters of new ways of buying. Thus, I'd say that Amazon is more representative of the future of people's buying habits, not so much a glimpse of today's market. That bodes will for Macs.

The fewer-SKU math is a good point as well. Nobody should argue that Amazon sells more Macs than any other brand--that evidence isn't here. Macs are the top-sellers, no more no less. (When I checked several times in recent days they were ALL top 10--but the list changes several times a day.)

Also, being in the top 10 is a pretty darned good "banner ad" for Apple, if nothing else!

As for Amazon offering good deals on Apple products: yes, they have for a long time. But deals are to be found on other products too. Especially Amazon top-sellers. [/B]

Basically, what is important here is that more people are buying online all the time. The numbers this holiday season were much higher than the year before, as they were the year before that, etc.

How much longer will it be before more people buy online than in the B&M stores?

Remember, it took several generations before people accepted the idea of buying from catalogs. The move online is occurring at a vastly greater pace.

So, if Apple is popular amongst those buying online, it's a good thing, and can't be discarded.

If Apple "dominates" the top ten, then perhaps they might sell 10% of all the computer models Amazon is selling - a good sign. That would be more than twice Apple's overall marketshare.

I'd like to know how this correlates to other online stores that sell Apple, as well as other companies computers. That would tell us a good deal more. About whether there is a trend.

I seem to have wandered off my reply to you.

People buying online products are more computer savvy than the average population.

Someone who buys a computer from Amazon I imagine will have a better understanding of what they are purchasing that the average Joe or Jane who walks into Best Buy.

These savvy well educated Amazon shoppers are buying the Macintosh in great numbers.

My reason would be that you can't get BTO option from Amazon, e.g. the 256VRAM upgrade for the new iMac.
