When I was in college, we used to get up early (and usually hung over) to watch Pee Wee's playhouse.
Pee Wee was pure genius, especially the first season when they were apparently putting out big bowls of crystal meth for the camera operators and editors.

I kinda miss that game actually. It's funny; you mention diptheria...a lot of people seemed to catch that on the trail, didn't they?
