Being a developer, I know I'd be pissed if someone was stealing my hard work. oh well.</strong><hr></blockquote>

Hahaha, no, you're not flaming [gay], you're just a flamer, as in someone who flames, because you posted a flame (or you meant to induce flames).

Seriously though, I don't really bother to use LimeWire or Fern (or any p2p sharing service) for "stealing" software. I use it to try out music, and sometimes I buy it, providing I like it, I want to support the artists (and the company supporting the artists), and I'm not boycotting their label. And even that is rare, because most fairly mainstream music I can trade with my friends. For software (and not necessarily commercial software, either), I either acquire it from my friends, or get it via one of many client/server protocols (Hotline, Carracho, IRC, FTP...)

And as far as "stealing" software, would there really be such a thing as "stealing" money if money could spontaneously make infinite copies of itself everytime somebody wanted money? Not really. And before you make blanket judgements about those of us who don't buy all of the software we have, some of us can't, and have good reason. But I don't need to validate myself to you, so I won't go into more detail.

Out of curiosity, who do you work for that you're a developer? Microsoft? Adobe? Macromedia? Even Apple? If you did, you'd know your pockets get padded either way... and you'd also realize that consumers are being WAY overcharged, and then getting screwed in the behind with lame licensing agreements.

Currently I work for the U.S. Gov. I'm an independant contractor hired by the Gov to develop applications.

So far all of the jobs I've done have been as a contractor/consultant. So only private companies and the Gov have used the apps I've worked on. There is no licensing agreements or anything. But if one of the places I worked gave some of my code to another company, I wouldn't be happy.

Just because you can't afford it, doesn't make it right.

I use LimeWire all the time... but, I buy what I download and like... and delete what I don't. As for file sharing... heres how I disabled it:

    GO TO:

    Limewire &gt; Preferences &gt; Sharing

    NOW:

You will see a field called "Shared Directories." As a default, your LimeWire Download folder is your shared folder. Simply select it, and hit the "remove" button. Then go to the field marked "shared extensions" field. Select all text (command-a) in it, and hit the delete key. Then click apply, then ok to close the preferences window.

There... without a shared folder, or filetypes to share... you win. Now, you don't support file sharing. Good job.

I'm glad no one person or group of people determines just what is "right" for everyone else. I'll just leave it at that.
