voxy, many people would definitely jump at that if it is around US$500 - a full-fledged DVR and a Mac as well...!

well, if you ask mac fans there are so many opportunities that apple is letting go by... eg. "apple should by adobe" ...that said, personally, i am anxiously (well not too anxiously) waiting for a core solo/ duo/ pentium m mac mini, preferably with DVR functionality!!! arghh bloody apple, they are always such a tease sometimes.....

probally i'm the only person who don't care about dvr on a mac...

i don't care about dvr at all.

what i don't understand is why a mac mini has to have this functionality when you can buy a dedicated dvr from, say philips?

    keep it simple.

How comes when the mini first came out Apple was advertising the mini as stackable? It even had an animated picture on the mini's front page.

Says who? I think the apple DVR isn't a question of *if* but *when*. I still think we'll see it in the next few months, it would be great if it was the next mini revision, but it may take longer than that.

I don't think there's any question that all macs will get front row and remote with the intel revision.

They don't need to add all these features to all minis, they have a range of prices and features in the minis already. Keep a "good" model with current specs and an intel solo, at the same low price point. Save the DVR and other features for the "best" model, which can be hundreds more.

Simple...FR is version 1. Bring on Front Row 2.

Who says they have to make the DVR version internationally available (at least initially)? A tuner doesn't cost that much, and apple has already started using codec chips (at least for playback) in the latest ipods.

Such as? I couldn't find a philips DVR for sale from philips, or any other company for that matter. All the DVR's I found were either computer based or part of a tivo type package.

There are a number of reasons to want DVR on a mac, the biggest is probably integration with itunes, photo slideshows, overall getting all media into one box.

Because marketing people never talk to the technical people. And if you remember, they pulled that animation within a day because Apple's tech docs were saying "Don't stack the mini!" (I think the main problem was that the mini's top is soft, so it bends on stacking, cutting into the CD drive).

No, that's a reason to want a media center, not a reason to shove a DVR on a mac (to me, its two different things).

Oh, and for it to be a decent DVR/Media center, it better have a LOT of storage. And I mean a LOT. My current Tivo has a 250GB drive in it. And it still fills up from time to time (damn movie networks!). If I want to get my music (40GBs compressed, but if its for a media center, shouldn't I go uncompressed?), photos (who knows, although who in the world wants photos hooked into your media center - do you really show off your pictures that much?), on-line movies, ripped DVDs, etc, I need room. and I'd rather have a component sized machine that has the room to grow, then a mini which I need to add freaking external drives to just to make stuff fit.

Yep. Even a moderately sized media library is space-consuming, especially with higher quality content.

Something like this is closer to my vision:

    Apple home media solution

[with 802.11n(?) upgrade for higher bandwidth WLAN streaming]

I also don't want a costly computer (and major media storage) in my warm living room. That stuff belongs downstairs, air conditioned and (optionally) backed up.
