With iLife '06 being included with the refurbs (it mentioned '05) it makes it even less attractive.
Regarding refurbs. My iBook purchased brand new had to be "refurbs" three times by Apple replacing the LCD, logicboard, DVD drive, HDD twice and some other crap. AppleCare is a must for any Mac.
Now if I need to write Universal binaries having a refurbed iMac G5 and the new iMac Intel would suit my needs.
I have bought two refurbed Macs last year, and am willing to buy more but I don't assume there is a parity between new and refurbished. The Apple statement isn't clear on the condition of the case for "certified" units, the iMac G5 had some odd speckles at the bottom back of the stand bend. If it was new, then I would be concerned, but I figured this is what to expect from B-stock and didn't call to see if that was acceptable. It's too late for me to check up on that as I had sold it, only because I really didn't use it much.
Costco has a good return policy, so if you're interested but have a reservation or two it might be worth to pick one up. Make sure you plan to add some RAM though, no matter where you make your purchase.
That's because Macs really aren't efficient with memory. I have 1.5GB and sometimes I need more. I'll get a laptop as my main system when I can stuff 4GB into one.
Thought I'd let people know: Most Costco's in Northern California, and probably elsewhere, have received shipments of iMac G5s. My guess is stock pulled from Apple Stores.
