My MBP also puts out that whining sound when no programs are open. It isn't a big deal, my powermac makes a little sound like that too when switching desktops (you:control desktops).

Other than that sound, which should be fixed with a patch in the near future, it is great!

I would assume that the operating system throttles the processing power in accordance with other applications. If you were rending a vido and ripping music it should a lot a percentage to each application. Are you running iTunes only when you saw that activity level?

ripping: when i'm transferring songs from a cd to itunes the cpu is running at 95percent.

this is what i dont get. is it supposed to be running that high?

I wouldn't have thought the twelve, just because when going that small an iBook is just as good, I think. My girlfriend has a 12" powerbook and I have a 12" iBook (that I use when I have to go network closets and such so I don't mess up my nice laptop ) and they are really about the same. Aside from physical construction (the PB feels built stronger) they are the same computer. Any body wanting to spend that much money is probably going to need the desktop space to work, which the small screen doesn't provide. Like I said though, it is great to go online/mail and use transmit and terminal though .

i run itunes by itself ripping music from a cd and its that high. also, it seems this cd drive is a lot more scratch sensitive. the slightest scratch on the cd and it wont read.... thats a sign of a really cheap cd drive. did they try to cut back or something? WTF???

can apple be bullshtting? maybe itunes really isn't fully optimized yet.
