I wonder if the new MacBook will be able to attach to one of the Apple Cinema Displays?
You mean native monitor spanning through a DVI native video out port? The iBook doesn't have it, so why would you expect the MacBook to?
Look everybody, just because Apple has moved to Intel doesn't mean they are going to magically start incorporating pro features into the consumer laptops. The MacBooks are already getting a huge increase in CPU performance, a nicer, higher rez widescreen display and a built in iSight. That's plenty for entry level machines at the same price points.
If you want a dedicated GPU, DVI out and an expansion slot then get a MacBook Pro.
I wonder if they offered one in iPod Black, if the Mag Safe Power Adapter that came with it would also be in black or do you think they would keep it white?
Good question, put they'll keep it white, just like the iPod headphones. It would actually look cool as it would accent the white Apple logo on the lid.

Under normal circumstances I would agree with you. But look what they did to the mini. It now has a Dual Layer DVD with a dual core chip and upgradeable to 2 GB ram. Nuts by previous standards!
Apple is not the same Apple when before the PPC -> Intel news. I think it is possible they will offer pro features in the next iBook. How many and which pro features is a different question.
1. MacBook 13- Intel Core Solos, crippled video out, Front Row, and probably iSight integration
I think this is highly probable. I also expect it to be a new look - Apple has done a great job HIDING any change in the iMac, MacBookPro, and MacMini during the Intel switch - it's time for a new feel machine (perhaps a closer look to iPod in this case).

4. iPod video- i don't care about this and i don't know who really wants to watch tiny movies in the US (Japan is a different story), but i think it might happen anyway
What we won't see:
1. no tablet Mac (still haven't seen a compelling reason for this besides techno-fetish lust)-
Ahh. What happens if the iPod video (with a 4 inch screen?) IS a tablet too... it can read PDFs (books), add hand writing recognition?
Quote:
2. no improved Airport Base Stations despite it being rendered mostly useless by the Express, certainly nothing for really invading the living room with.
Hmm. What about if there was an Airport Express that ran FrontRow? Same video/audio out as the MacMini + Remote (and _maybe_ a DVD player too?).
My only fear if they release these three products is I will buy both the 17" and new iPod. My wife will kill me, I'll be out 4 grand. ....... But I will have new toys from Apple. Such is life... :-)
i have been diagnosed with bipolar disorder this year. this explains quite some erratic behaviour on my part buying and selling macs around 2004-2005. suffice to say i am living with my parents now and on medication
........the integrated gpu which in benchmarks has outperformed the ppc mini by up to 70% faster performance and now handles support for HD video playback?......
dude, i would really appreciate it if you substantiate the above statements right away. seriously i cannot find any information on how intel integrated graphics will run compared to ati radeon 9200. aspyr at this stage seems to have no info whatsoever.
if intel gma 950 in the mac mini core solos and duos gives 70% improvement in 3d gaming and handles 720p (core solo) and 1080p (core duo) high definition flawlessly, then we've got a real nice gem on our hands. but we need more data at this stage.
no disrespect shanmugan my main man but enough with the iMacs already. give me my friggin' 13" widescreen iBook with nVidia Go6600 (okay, more like Go6200) graphics....!! also a 17" macbook pro (nVidia Go7800) would be cool too
I have to get in the camp that says it's just going to be an iBook, and other known product updates, but I'd prefer to think Apple has something awesome, and new in the works for the 30th anniversary.
you know, there's a certain zen-like comfort to knowing that my tech life is you know, just fine and dandy. nice to sit on the sidelines and watch people go nuts at each other with pc-this and mac-that and integrated graphics this- and bollocks-that
of course, as mentioned previously, this comfort comes from 1900 3dMark06's. YEAHHHHHHHHH BOYYYY. not bad for a rig built from scratch several months ago. not bad at all......

Amen, we are more satisified with iMac, but i am more worried about the prices of MacBooks, all will be fine once intel starts to roll out next generation CPUs, Merom, Conore, Woodcrest ...
then Mac Mini, MacBooks will be very interesting and affordable ... hopefully that will be Oct 2006.
just because Apple has moved to Intel doesn't mean they are going to magically start incorporating pro features into the consumer laptops.
I don't think extended desktop features are a pro-exclusive feature. Every other laptop has this feature, and Apple's going to look mighty stupid restricting it in a $999 laptop, when you can get the same laptop to do it from Toshiba, HP, or even Dell at that price. I think Apple would one up the competition by offering mini DVI out with extended desktop and gigabit Ethernet.
I think the pro-exclusive feature is going to come down to, in most circumstances, the graphics card and the speed of the processor(s).
As far as this event goes (getting right back on topic)... I think you're right... MacBooks and iPods. I have a feeling that sometime between now and then (on a random Tuesday) we'll see Universal Binaries of the pro-apps (FCP, etc). I think we might even see a 17-inch MacBook Pro suddenly appear without much fanfare, esp. if it's the same as the 15.4-inch MacBook Pro but just with the larger display. Just a hunch.
1. While Toshiba 'threw down the gauntlet' with an HD-DVD drive in their upcoming laptop, don't hold your breath for Apple to put HD in the 17" version of the MacBook PRO. First, Apple is backing Blu-Ray, some specs of which aren't even finalized yet. Second, Apple pulled dual-layer drives out of the 15" MacBook Pro because they weren't thin enough to maintain the design; I can promise you that the first generation Blu-Ray drives will NOT be thin enough to fit in the 3/4" enclosure required for a MacBook Pro.
2. It is about the content. The true iPod AV/Video iPod is waiting in the wings for the content deals to be in place, but it doesn't appear that'll happen anytime soon. The studios are too greedy and stuck on the idea of subsrciptions and zero ownership (so they can still get you to buy the DVD, and a UMD for your PSP, etc. What may work for Apple is a compromise, perhaps even in partnership with Disney. The new Mac Mini (or any Mac) could be made to recieve 'data-casts' of HD movies for a subscription fee. For a few dollard extra, you can OWN a low-res iPod-ready copy of the film. Job's can sell this as the best of both worlds (HD at home on your big screen, without eating GB's of drive space and complete portability and ownership). Still, non of this will be ready for April. Apple could release the iPod, but will likely wait until content deals are achieved.
3. So, what will we get. Predictable updates and perhaps, just perhaps, one completely new thing...
I don't think extended desktop features are a pro-exclusive feature. Every other laptop has this feature, and Apple's going to look mighty stupid restricting it in a $999 laptop, when you can get the same laptop to do it from Toshiba, HP, or even Dell at that price.
Please show me a Wintel laptop using the Intel GMA950 integrated graphics chip that supports DVI native monitor spanning.
I think that the MacBook/iBook/whatever will support monitor spanning via mini-DVI just as the iMac now does. It only makes sense to keep the feature set of the consumer level computers relatively the same. And yes, for them not to do this while most of their PC counterparts are doing it with either DVI or VGA is foolish.
Comments
1.83 GHz Duo MacBook Pro is on my list but I still want to see the new iBook replacement.
I prefer smaller laptop over speed.

24 Hours battery life and the long awaited Fox partnership complete with the latest episodes of 24 Season 5 (Oh... and in the UK too!!!!)
Please please please rip me off Apple; by bringing legal TV Downloads to the United Kindom.

Doesn't mean Apple can't do it, or shouldn't do it...
I am also wondering if they will make the MacBook's screen as bright as the MacBook Pro's (at 300 nits)...
