Looks like someone Apple should pull a Sherlock/Dashboard on.

Ouch...I'm sticking with the unfixed Finder. That's some nasty shit.

There are some things I definitely like about the screenshots, such as the visible path that is (hopefully) springloaded for drag and drop. Some things I don't like, like all the space that is still being wasted just like in the original Finder. Definitely a "must try" though, and it's possible some of the wasted space can be reclaimed through preferences and options.

Finder needs more than just adding more panes and info in the main window. It needs more behind the scenes work. For instance, Spotlight relies partially on metadata to find things. How about the ability to actually ADD METADATA? I'm talking about IPTC Core metadata embedded in the file not some proprietary metadata located in some other master file (like iPhoto and Photoshop).

Also, the permissions control needs work. There is lots of room for improvement.

It's a good idea... But I think it should be an option.. Mac OS is supposed to be a strait forward OS.. I guess that's why the FINDER has stayed pretty much the same for so many years.. But that "NEW FINDER" could be like Advanced View for Advanced users... of course that the finder had changed, IMO better and it will continue to evolve, no doubt that Leopard will bring radical changes, but I don't see them like that picture.. but Mac OS should definetly have an advance view of the finder for pro users..

That program is a UI nightmare. Choices are good but they have to be presented well or people will just be overwhelmed.

No. But when I write "It looks like" elron writes "it is". That indicates he have tried it.

Me too I like it straight forward, simple, simplier, the simplest,

but plenty of power when you need it, and that is the key

here: when you need it. I don't know that particular

app, but at first glance it looks rather nightmarish - and

worse, so unerotic. No thanks, i go with the sexy Finder.

Don't care if there are good ideas or not in that mess. I need new contacts and an eye exam after looking at that....

That is one crowded, ugly UI.

Oh yea. ...and what is that section called favorites? Is that a folder called favorites or is it aliases to files located elsewhere posing as files?

No, he's got the Windows virus, remember?

Looks good...sort of. I'd use it as long as there's an option to shut it off easily (ie: I don't have to uninstall it to turn it off temporarily). I think it still needs some work though, but the concepts are all there.

How about a SIMPLER UI than the current finder, with transparent networking, heavy threading, and clever spotlight integration?

I want less visual bullshit and that finder re-work has more of it, way more. I want context-sensitive info, not ever-present useless info.

If this thing is uber-responsive, threaded correctly, connects to iDisk fast, and so forth, it might be worth putting up with the crowded UI. Also if it lets you drag an iDisk file to a web forum text entry box (like this one I'm typing into now) and would insert the URL of that file, as well as a simple "copy file location" menu item, it would be very nice. There has been so little done in integrating web entry forms with the user's file system.

Anyone actually run this thing yet?

Yeah, I'm fine, I'm just experiencing sensory overload so you don't have to.
