funny i was thinking the same thing. A device that was powered over airwaves or something would be cool. You plug in the base, and it sends the power through the air to the machine. Of course the user would probably die of exposure in a year.

More like 10 minutes. It would be like living inside a microwave oven. Additionally, every metal object in the vicinity would be arcing and glowing red hot as it absorbed the EMR. If you go to shorter wavelengths, you run into problems with line-of-sight, or even ionizing radiation (&gt;UV) which will cause genetic damage. Not a particularly practical solution.

Oh yeah, geez, what were *we* thinking about?

Holy crap, I cannot believe we forgot about the 9.9 limit on warp.

    Crap.

That's it, I'm buying more Apple stock! Lust factor 10 is more lust than even Kirk can concieve of!

    Wow!!!!

Has anyone been keeping track of all the slogans, as they've appeared? And if so, could someone post them all in one post?

And what is with the Star Trek references?

Must be some kind of wireless communicator? Duh.

    Either that or a starship.

In all seriousness though, I'd definately have to agree that "lust" would apply to an object, not services. The fact that they say "Full speed ahead:Lust factor ten" implies massive speed (as all trekers know, warp 10 is extrememly fast, faster then your typical star ship ... "go where no PC has gone before"). Hmmm, maybe I'll be getting a G5 afterall ... mabye ... <img src="graemlins/bugeye.gif" border="0" alt="[Skeptical]" /> </strong><hr></blockquote>

    Or faster OS X. Again.

    It's easy.

    Day's left to Macworld = 2

    Lust factor = 10

    10/2=5 = G5!!

    or

    2 x G5 (DPs) = Lust factor 10!!

    or (as my girlfriend said)

    2x10 = 20!! They're gonna have Quad G5s!!

Hell, I don't know. Just try to connect the dots. It works though huh?

Still not right. That is just the top warp speed of Intrepid-class starships. In the Star Trek universe, ridiculously fast speeds of warp factor 9.999999+ are very possible, allowing nearly instantaneous travel between two points. Warp 10, however, is unattainable; one would possess infininte speed, occupying all points of the universe simultaneously.

Yes, I am a gigantic Trek tech geek.

Seems like Apple thinks its new gadgets have an infininte lust factor.

I don't think the slogans have any other purpose than just pure hype. I would like to say that I think we'll see G5s, but iMacs at G4? What about the PowerBook...that would have to match or beat the iMac's specs, and is the ability to do that ready yet? Otherwise, I'm drooling with anticipation.

heh. Yeah, she said OS X was the first thing that came to mind when she saw the "10".

She only looked cause I was in bed and heard her on the computer in the other room. I woke up and said, "hey check Apple's site for me".

Didn't even have to get up.

I started a different thread with this in it....but it's locked and I figure it'll sink fast, so I wanted to stick it in here. Apologies to all who have to scroll through it, and winks to those who enjoy it.

    &gt;&gt;&gt;&gt;&gt;&gt;&gt;&gt;&gt;&gt;&gt;&gt;&g t;&gt;&gt;&gt;&gt;&gt;&gt;&gt;&gt;&gt;&gt;&gt;&gt; &gt;&gt;&gt;&gt;

    So.

    Star Trek is it?

    Let's see.

The Keynote begins in near pitch darkness, the only light in the room ebbs from the exit signs spread around the room. The crowd is noticeably anxious and the air is tinged with danger.

A bone-shaking thrumming noise pulses through the room and a high-pitched electronic hiss fills the air as a bright beam of light coalesces into human forms on the stage.

There are three men, all in turtlenecks.

Captain Steven P. Jobs, respelendent in his black turtleneck casts his eyes over the crowd looking for sweeties. He winks at a knot of 40-something women clustered in mini-dresses at his feet.

Science Officer Avie, in the blue turtleneck takes in his surroundings with a calculated efficiency pausing only once to raise his eyebrow at the sight of the third man on stage with them....

Ensign Phil Schiller glances back and forth at his Captain and at Mr. Avie, nervously tugging at the collar of his two-sizes-too-small red turtleneck.

"Jeepers, Captain Steve," sputters Ensign Schiller,"do you think they're hostile?"

Mr. Avie, tapping a small white device with his finger, its color screen reflected in his eyes, answers for the Captain,"Your fear is unfounded Mr. Schiller. Instruments indicate these people are calm, almost in a state of worshipful meditation."

"Doesn't matter if they're happy to see us or not boys, I'm shortly going to throw you both into the middle of that pack just as soon as I can whip them into a frenzy. But don't worry, I'm going to use this on them first...."

Reaching into his back pocket he fishes out a small device and aims it at the crowd, depressing the firing stud on top. A bright light fills the room and the words "One More Thing" fill the wall behind them.

"What is that thing he's using?"screams the Ensign as the crowd starts to howl and press forward toward the three men.

"Oh that? That's the Reality Distortion Field. The Captain's perfectly safe now....but he asked me to send you on a mission Mr. Red Shirt, I mean, Mr. Schiller. Could you walk over to those keyboards and activate the computer?"

The crowd surged forward and the screams began again, this time in earnest.

Someone going by the name of dylan posted a clever idea at Macslash.

    <a href="http://www.macslash.com/articles/02/01/04/1654206.shtml"; target="_blank">http://www.macslash.com/articles/02/01/04/1654206.shtml</a>;

They suggest that each slogan corresponds to a different product. These may be the slogans that will be attached to each product in ads after the keynote.

Monday - "This one is big. Even by our standards."

Could be a new, larger cinema display.

Tuesday - "Count the days. Count the minutes. Count on being blown away."

    A faster PM.

Wednesday - "Beyond the rumor sites. Way beyond."

    The flat panel, all-in-one iMac.

Thursday - "It's like a backstage pass to the future."

    iPod (music reference)

Friday - ?To go where no PC has gone before.?

    Gigawire

Saturday - ?Full speed ahead. Lust factor ten.?

Reference to OS X. Steve keeps going on about how beautiful and lickable OS X is. This seems like an obvious reference to OS X. (Only this last one is my interpretation).

    Sunday - ?

    New product?

Think about it. Apple always has some clever little tagline like this in their ads. I just saw one today in Time magazine for OS X. Something like "The only thing we have a monopoly on is compliments". Kind of a clever poke as ms as well as acknowledging all the good press OS X has gotten.

We might be looking at an outline of the keynote parsed out a day at a time.

Actually, neutrino23 might be on to something.

At first, I was taking all the statements to be generalized, overall comments meant for the keynote and all (or the Expo...same thing).

But I asked in a chat room last night if what if each daily tagline is a hook, or tied to, a specific announcement/product?

    I don't know. Probably not.

But it's a nice, different way to think about it. Opens up a fun little speculation game.
