Sorry, I just hate it when people start blaming the city every time they screw up.
You know Freud would say that regan subconsciously wanted a reason to buy a new iPod, and that's why he left it in a bathroom right around the corner from the Apple store.
Having worked in security for several years back in the States, I know from first-hand experience that there are dorks out there who will take anything that they think is valuable and that more often than not, things left in toilets, and other places, do not get returned. If you follow the news, the NYC subway is rife with iPod thefts; iPods are hot items in NY. Supposedly, lots of people buy different earphones so passers-by won't know they have an iPod.
Sorry about the loss, but I think you need to deal with your language and where/how you direct your anger (if this was anything other than just a ventation). Especially when travelling, with all the confusion, exhaustion, jetlag, and rushing, plan ahead how to keep your valuables extra safe. "I'm just going to leave it here for a second..." are famous last words voiced by many people.
Now that the venting is over... on to your question.
The 5G is fantastic... I love throwing vids up on my friends' TVs. Grab a small wall charger if you do this a lot.
I don't own that much in the way of music and only carry around a few short videos I make for my classes. It is more the adequate. It is also slightly smaller than the 60 in thickness and weight, which is nice. I grabbed an Agent18 hard case for it to protect the screen, which is great.
Also, if you get a 30, you won't be out that much if Apple comes out with a 6G or new thingy in the near future.
Get the DLO HomeDock (there is a new one -Deluxe - that looks great) and it will work with the iPod in the hard case.
If you first save it as a QuickTIme movie and convert it to iPod format, yes. You can do this in QT Pro or iMovie.
I make stuff using Keynote and and various graphics programs, add audio in Garageband and then mix down in iMovie, where I sometimes add real video as well. I just use the iMovie "save to iPod" setting to convert stuff.
I'm ipod-less at the moment too. I had a 20 GB Photo stolen from my coat pocket in class, and dropped my 15 GB 3G and dislodged the hard drive. I'm thinking about waiting for the new video too, but the battery life on the current 5Gs doesn't seem to be as good as my old Photo.
From what I understand the battery life IS indeed alot better in the 5G compared to the ipod photo. Apple claims up to 20hrs. But this is when using music only.
You may be thinking of running video. Thats when the battery lasts considerably less. But the battery in the ipod photo also lasts alot less when playing music and a photo slideshow....so you have to compare carefully.
The new ipods definitely have better battery life.

It was meant to be funny.
Do I "really" want the person who took my ipod to get run over by a train?
Nah.
I honestly hope they are enjoying listening to all my music and looking at all my photos....even the risque ones of my girlfriend and I.
I'm over it.
Just debating which video ipod to get now.
5G 30GB

So you are a filmmaker?
Me too. Actually I've been doing alot of flash animations lately. Will flash animations play on a video ipod?
