Could you please explain in what way you feel that current rap isn't re-hashing itself, and other genres, to keep itself marketable?
I'm not saying Rap isn't re-hashing itself and is the same crap from 10 years ago, just in a new package. But Rap's origins are in the late 70's/early 80's, Rock's are in the 50's/60's if not before if you throw Blues in with Rock. So who do you think would have the upper advantage??? That isn't the point anyways.
Nice one though. It certainly shows you know what you're talking about.
As with almost every time I've engaged you in an argument, you have failed to provide anything of substance. Not even much of an opinion, other than an elitist facade. Please tell me: who are you that makes you such an authority on these issues of proper culture? I'm legitimately curious.
If you're just another kid who goes to a second-tier college, you don't have to respond.

It's all 'pop' music anyway. That's what the charts track.
Piss on the concept, but appreciate the ability of the songwriter or performer to deliver a product that appeals to a wide group of people. It's a well-crafted distillation. A product. 'Product' in the most pure, commercial, constructed way possible.
Britney Spears. Pop.
Kanye West. Pop.
Limp Bizkit. Pop.
Death Cab For Cutie. Pop.
The Smiths. Pop.
Radiohead. Pop.
Pearl Jam. Pop.
50 Cent. Pop.
Bloc Party. Pop.
The Neptunes. Pop.
Neil Young. Pop.
NIN. Pop.
Bjork. Pop.
Coldplay. Pop.
Etc., etc., etc. Pop.
That group of scruffy indie kids who've just rented a rehearsal space. Pop aspirants.

That's great. Good job completely ignoring the point of my post. I hear George W is looking for a new White House Press Secretary to answer questions with a different answer, you should apply for the job.
5) Rap isn't as old as rock, so it's not the same thing and it has some advantage due to youth.
What the hell is your point, then, other than you being bitter about the success of Coldplay while being a consumer of current corporate music.
Your hyperbolic rant that started this thread was far more deserving of the 'rolleyes' emoticon than anything else posted in response.
How's the Three 6 Mafia album?
My point is that we are mammals that are suppose to EVOLVE and not be stuck in the same old bullshit over and over again for years on end that serves no purpose in moving the world forward.

All Hail Mediocrity and All Buy Mediocrity.
Do you use Windows by chance?
You seem to believe that there's no value in exploring the boundaries of mediocrity.

Rap. The musical saviour. 30 years strong! Slightly less mediocre than Bob Dylan. Hurrah!
Nah, OSX. I'm sure you've progressed past it already though, with it being almost 6 years old. If you'd like to continue insulting me, pop musicians, Karl Rove or the French, we have a PM system here.
Can Chris Martin and Gwyneth Paltrow take their Millions of Dollars live on an English Farm somewhere and just GO THE F___ AWAY??????
Coldplay = Radio & MTV Friendly Watered Down Radiohead Rip-Off Artist. The Hootie and the Blowfish of the early 2000's.
Gwyneth Paltrow = Talentless Stuck Up Actress that seems to think that she is British and Good Looking, when she is neither.
These two hacks are perfect for each other... But not the world in general. Take your two kids and STFU. Apple Corps. should be suing them for naming their baby Apple.
As with almost every time I've engaged you in an argument, you have failed to provide anything of substance.
As opposed to your charade of insults?

Elitist because I think Britney Spears isn't polished? Yeah, really.

I'm the guy that pointed out that you have a logical fallacy wrt to pop and polish.

I may even be a 50-year old doofus that hasn't even finished 4-years of elementary school, but your contention that pop is polished is as true as if I were to say I'm Jesus Christ himself listenting to Christina Aguilera's latest "hit".
That is, not even close.
Please understand that 'pop' is 'pop' for a reason, and that reason is because it is what the masses listen to. Also understand that the masses, as a rule, don't particularly have a high level of musical taste, and as such, anything they listen to (with some rare exceptions) is un-polished, un-intelligent, un-artistic garbage that record labels put out so they can sell more singles to 15-year old teenies that want to be like The Next Pop Queen.
There are, however, plenty of indie groups that make some undeniably polished pop songs.
I think a good example would be "Swimmers" by Broken Social Scene. I mean it's just a damn well made, well produced, borderline sugary pop song.
If Michelle Branch recorded it, it'd probably all over the radio and defined as "vapid pop"
I don't get why people get so worked up about others music choices. Listen to what you like and don't worry about others is my opinion.
I've got music I bought when I was 11 (Bon Jovi - New Jersey comes to mind) that I would never buy today given my current musical tastes, but I still listen to it and enjoy it!
Some of my favorite music is by a group called Mew. They are indie, pop, their music is well produced (I guess that is what "Polished" imply) but still sounds FAR from any Spears or Madonna stuff.
Give them a twirl if you get a chance. Unfortunetly they are not in the US iTMS, but you can get your 30 seconds from the danish store.
For an extreme case of well polished indie check out Ulrich Schnauss.
And here is an outragous statement: My Bloody Valentines "Loveless" was VERY polished for its days.

I am a snob about music, somewhere between Jack Black and John Cusack in High Fidelity. And I have exquisite taste in all things.

Ugh, so is Europe. France especially, but there's nothing special about England. We have rednecks, they have hooligans.
Actually, England has rednecks too. I saw one of their candidates interviewed on TV last summer and he was not wearing a shirt.

Let's see:
1) You think Chris Martin & Gwyneth Paltrow suck.
2) You like music signed to major labels.
3) Rock is dead.
4) Rap is the new 'Rock'.
5) Rap isn't as old as rock, so it's not the same thing and it has some advantage due to youth.
