Where the *&@% is the MacBook?
All the rumour sites were sure that it was coming in January. Then, when Asus was engaged, the announcement again because imminent. An analyst now says it won't be announced until July, which seems unlikely as parents will start making buying decisions long before then.
So where is the MacBook/iBook that so many are waiting for, and why is it taking so long? After all, unless they pull a magic rabbit out of the hat, like a really great tablet, then this thing is just a WinTel laptop in a nifty Apple case.

Patience my child it's coming in May. Don't mind the analysts!
But then I have no IDEA really. Just guessing like everyone else.
I'm still limping along on my old G3 ibook...so BELIEVE me...I hear you.
I am so looking forward to updating my G3 12" ibook to the new 13" intel ibook...or macbook or whatever they are going to call it.
My only hope is that they finally redesign the look of the ibook. I have this nightmare that apple is just going to drop an intel chip into the current 12" ibook g4 enclosure.

I can wait for the macbook....no matter HOW frustrating it may be. I will wait.
And wait.....and waaaaaaaaaaaait.
For as long as it takes. :P

Well the joke is on Apple if they wait longer. They're missing out on tons of edu sales.
Agreed. They need to get the Macbooks out pronto. The school where my children attend is making their purchasing decision for computers now. While they were never considering Macs, purchasing decisions for next year are being made as we speak.

I'm sure this is true, but I wonder why. Parents buy computers for kids in school, right? In my experience (and I could be way off), high schools and colleges start in the mid-August - early-September time frame. Also in my experience, most people still seem to believe that a computer becomes "obsolete" a few months after it's purchased.
Knowing that, wouldn't parents want to delay buying a laptop for their child until shortly before school begins? If I were sending a kid to school, they wouldn't get a computer until August. Are computers popular graduation gifts or something? I mean, I know that's what my parents gave me (and I still didn't cash in until August) but I was a pretty big nerd. I thought most people wanted cars or trips for graduation.

you know, i feel the same way. parents buy computers in august.
now schools, that might be a different thing. i'd GUESS arrangements with computer vendors could start as early as february to decide which laptops are gonna get offered around campus.
of course i'm just speculating here. but this is what these forums are all about anyway. so.

I think SpaceMonkey would have been funnier, but that's just me a relic.

I'm sure that any "volume" deals that Apple pens with schools will have a clause that the schools will be supplied with the newest iBooks...aka MacBooks...available at the time of shipping. I think that everyone interesed knows that a MacBooks is coming out, and should be here in time for delivery to schools as well as back to school consumer buying season.

Not exactly true. I graduate from HS in 3 weeks and I'm getting a computer for graduation. (intel iBook/macbook of course)
I can think of at least 10 other classmates that are wanting the new iBook/Macbook to come out because thats what their parents said they would get them for graduation: a computer
I thought you get a car for your 16th birthday?
when: whenever they feel like it..
why: because it's fucking apple...
Can I add that I've seen this 13.3" form factor from SONY and I have to tell you it's a beauty.. Perfect for traveling, very light and confortable, screen size was perfect compared to the iBook 12" (not that there is anything wrong with it) but the extra inch is welcomed, without making a bif of a difference in weigh. I held it and compared it to a 14.1" wide and the size and weight are very far apart it's unbelivable how much diferent seemed to me.. I think that (Steve & CO.) know that this little piece of hardware is the one not to screw up with and maybe they have an ACE up their slevees.. who knows! but I have to tell you that the 13.3" MacBook shoud be the real portable flagship from Apple.

You know how the rumors game is played.

I'm holding out hope that they are being delayed because Apple is trying to implement secret super sweet features to the iBook replacement.
Maybe they are trying to add Intel Robson "instant boot" cache technology. Saves on power plus things boot faster!
Maybe they are waiting for the price cuts on the Core Duo L2300 (1.5 GHz) and L2400 (1.66 GHz). "L" for 15 Watts TDP, half that of Core Duo T2400, T2500 and T2600 in the MBP. Saves on power!
Maybe they are having a difficult time working out the manufacturing kinks of the new super slick iBook replacement form factor that will be < 1" thick and < 4 lb. Saves on space and grunt factor!
Probably just trying to build up inventory on the new machines and draw down inventory on the iBook. But I'm holding out hope on slick new features.

Is there such a think as the L series of Core Duos? It sure would be nice to have a cooler-running chip.
No he just makes things up. Keep dreaming!
