    For the record, not me.

It is easy to demonstrate that your products are superior (show them and let the viewer decide) without being arrogant.

I'd like the people who think the adverts are great (or even O.K.) to explain how they think these are all that different from the "Switcher" campaign. That was a complete failure; Apple's market share actually declined whilst the "Switcher" campaign was running.

I just don't see them as being all that arrogant. I mean, they're holding hands in the "networking" one, and the Mac dude seems friendly in the others. I don't get the "snooty" feeling from these that other folks are getting. I think they're poking a little lighthearted fun at Windows, & not Windows users so much. OS X is a superior product. What's the matter with saying so?

Though they could have maybe dressed the Mac guy up a little bit. I'll give you that-- the Bohemian look might put off professionals.

I thought everybody would enjoy reading this article about the ads. I still think they have some merit. I guess we need to see how it effects sales. TV ads

Thank you!, Thank you!, Thank you! I was about to stop reading Forums at all! The ads are low-key, light-hearted, and they don't take themselves too seriously. It is a welcome change from most ads. [Mac guy is fine. The young, hip market has lots of money, and they will love it! These ads weren't written for IT professionals or Tax Attorneys!]

Maybe more Forum writers should practice those three traits.

They will be effective at bringing people into Apple Retail, and that's all they need to do.

Thank you, Steve, for not boring us all to death!

These adds will not appeal to corporate users. Creative users probably will like them. But isn't that a Mac area of strengh anyway? In order to increase marketshare they need to appeal to a wider audience. With boot camp and VM software corporate users should find these machines very attractive. But Apple needs to show these people the possiblities.

The "iMac" is the Computer which is in peoples

mind and heart most connected to Apple.

Look if people talk about apple they almost always

reference to iMac. iMac is Apples most powerful brand

    besides iTunes and iPod.

Wait. Unless I missed something they don't mention BootCamp or Parellels at all. That is the biggest fucking deal ever. They run commercials about the Intel. WHO FUCKING CARES the only good thing about it for most people is that they can RUN WINDOWS.

God damn Apple is so out of touch in terms of marketing Macs.

They should show the PC guy doing something, then the Mac guying do it at the same time as doing tons of other like iLife shit the PC can't.

But they just don't fucking get it.

They mention it on the web site. As for the TV comercials, how exactly would that fit? They're about how Mac OS is superior.

Add it to the Viruses ad? "We're immune, but if you feel like it, you can experience the viruses first-hand anyway."

Add it to the iLife ad? "Maybe you do enjoy Windows's clock."

Agreed, there should be a line of commercials that are aimed at corporate users that show of boot camp, VM software, networking, and document exchange with MS office as it is a business standard.

As I mentioned earlier, I would love to see an add with an executive using a Mac while his subordinates use PCs. Obviously the implication is that a Mac gives you a competitve edge. If that doesn't work then let a half naked Paris Hilton grind all over a MBP.

Maybe, but the iBook becomes history in a few days.

Yeah...Apple sells Macs not Mac OS X, basically. So if they wanna sell 'em they better advertise that they run Windows. Unless of course they don't want to make more money. Which would be weird.

No ads will appeal to corporate customers. Corporate customers aren't (a) even willing to look at Macs quite yet, and (b) don't make decisions based on ads.

In marketing, rather than seeking some forbidden fruit that you'll never reach, go for the low hanging fruit.

That would be the most unconvincing commercial ever. "Our OS is so much better. But due to market pressures, we let you run Windows."

Boot Camp will help a certain group of potential switchers that's already fairly good with computers. The couple of people that are planning to switch now that Boot Camp is in place knew about it the day it happened.

Other than that, Boot Camp reduces the cachet of Mac OS X. (After all, if OS X is so good, then why do people need to runs Windows?). It's not something you want to tell general audiences.

By your logic, their iPod advertisements should show that you can install Linux.

The commercials are there to show what Macs offer over other PCs, not what they do just as well.

I disagree. I posted a link in another thread that showed that Macs are cheaper to own than pcs. This is important in business. Maintaining machine scost money and Macs are cheaper. One of the appealing aspects of AMD chips for servers is that they consume less energy to run. People do look at cost of ownwership when making decisions.

Apple should go after this market. Macs do compete well here. Many people are unaware how MS office is well integrated with the Mac version and are unaware of VM software as well as boot camp. Use adds to increase awareness about Macs and what they can do.

Nope, that comparison is not fair. What possible benefit does a user get by installing Linux on their iPod? Now consider what possible benefit a user gets by installing Windows XP on their Macs? The latter is far more useful and a strong feature (compatibility with work apps, ability to play PC games, etc.) while the former is just a geeky hack.

Of course, it wouldn't be positioned as that. An ad would highlight a Mac as the UberComputer at a reasonable price. "Look at all these easy great things you can do with Mac OS X, and hey, we know some of you just need to use Windows sometimes, so you can run it too!"

When virtualization becomes more mature, an ad could feature "Look at all these great things you can do with Mac OS X, and because you just might need to, you can run Windows XP right inside the great OS X environment alongside all your Mac applications!"

It's not about the Mac capitulating or conceding ground, it's not about the Mac playing nice, it's about the Mac playing better than the rest.
