I can live with MacBook Pro especially when you know about the Macbook and then think ok Macbook Pro for professioanls.
But Mac Pro??
Come on? maybe ProMac but even that sounds stupid.
Maybe TowerMac or MacTower would be a solution but also not quite it sounds like a Dell Product the new TowerMac besides its too close to PowerMac
This is very difficult but Apple please don't call the new PowerMac , MacPro its just too close to the other names that already exist people will just get confused.
the whole naming thing is getting skewed, kinda iRonic when all it is trying to do is simplify things.
it all makes sense, but there are a few problems.
1. they can't really do away with the "i" thing altogether, the "iMac" recognition factor is just too big to ditch, do you see them changing the iPod name now? MacPod and MacPod Pro? I doubt it.
2. as mentioned before, this overeasy naming scheme is actually making things more complicated because the names resemble so much.
I wouldn't have mind if they had stuck w/ the iBook thing.
Since I find it very hard to believe they're gonna do away with the "iMac" name, it kinda leaves a gap..... if the powermac will be Mac Pro (alas it prolly will) then where's the Mac ?
I don't see them releasing another consumer headless mac, called Mac... I don't see them releasing a sub1k iBook either (though, perhaps they should).
actually, I wonder if the powermacs, sorry Mac Pros will be redesigned much at all. They'll prolly just be dual dual core versions of the current powermac G5s...... haven't been following much, but there's a good chance they won't even be 64bit chips innit?
even though I'm happy for Apple's succes in recent years, I do hope they stay true to the pro users, who've stuck by them for much longer than this iPod fling has lasted. So I hope Apple will continue to painstakingly make gorgeous pro machines. I still think my Quicksilver towers are some of the purdiest computer towers I've ever seen.
yes Mac Pro sounds stupid, and i hope they will call it Power Mac or have like a MacTower (Core 2 Duo aka Conroe) and MacTower Pro (Xeon 5100s aka Woodcrest).
Just because apple filed for "Mac Pro" doesnt even come close to proving anything, they have hundreds of things like this they have done and never used. With the way they are renaming stuff and using the word Mac with all the computers, and Pro for pro lines, its possible they are only doing it to stop others from using this and confusing customers.

But I personally like the MacDaddy idea.
They should hire you as a consultant! Keep the good ideas coming!

Yes they are 64bit... woodcrest / conroe are 64bit.
I don't see a point for making another tower outside of the Mac Pro. Wouldn't the high end Mac Mini suffice? If not, you might as well buy the Mac Pro then.
I'd also like to see a sub-MacBook. This way, once college is over (which will probably eliminate my need for a full sized laptop) I can spend the money on Mac Pro and have the sub-MacBook for when I need a laptop with me.

That's like bringing back the cube which is what a lot are in favor for, but the pricing is too close to the iMac for Apples taste, and the cube failed once already, so Apple has something to base that on. There is what appears to be a lot of talk about it, but there was even more when they released the Cube.
I'm not surprised that the iMac is the only one left with an i. The word iMac penetrated the public mind long before the iPod. Plus both the iPod and iMac are meant for the individual.

How about the return of the low-end power mac, which generally went for $1600-1800?

MacPro just sounds shit.

I agree with that
