I think the killer question here is to find out what the people surveyed wanted to run on Windows. I'll bet most of the 'Windows-specific' capability is available on OSX anyway and this is a market ignorance/education question.

Having XP pre-installed is a tough one. It's good that Apple are saying 'bring it on, compare us side-by-side' but would the Mac spend more time in Windows mode? I think it would unless Apple got their act together and acknowledged the internet is really the MS-Internet and if they don't make Safari/iChat & Mail more Windows friendly/compliant there's going to be a lot of Start buttons on the Mac's Task-bar.

Also Boot camp needs a DMZ drive and fast user switching (maybe with a flip rather than a cube) even if it means clobbering the background performance of the inactive OS or a memory dump to HD to preserve performance.

Apple should rethink their campaign against Windows... show two Windows geeks just doing their jobs (maybe running Microsoft Office) one of the geeks is having to deal with constant crashes, taking longer to do basic tasks, etc., while the nearly identical geek is shown plowing through his work. We pull back and see one runs a Mac and one runs a Dell. This would show PC-folks a context they understand. Forget about the fun software, as you can see, this harms Apple by the misguided opinions of your case subject...

I meant, however, that we (core consumers) are the hand that feeds Apple--and offering Windows alongside OS X might "bite" us to such an extent that we stop being Apple's 'cash gimps'.

That'd work... except not. Having Mac hardware won't necessarily make Windows not crash as often.

While I can't speak for what will happen with Vista, it's been said that windows is more stable on a Mac, because the driver situation is handled by Apple's software driver. Drivers are a part of Windows problems. I almost never got a "blue window" running Windows through VPC.

Virii and trojan horses are a different matter. Still had to be careful.
