I just hope we see MacPro and iMac shipping next week. The only downside I can see for Apple is that they don't want to disrupt back-to-school buying the a model changeover.
Whoever said that the change will be incremental seems correct. I saw a test comparison and it was only a few percent faster. Maybe 64 bit is a big deal - maybe not.
If they don't ship iMac next week I may buy the current one. I need to get a machine like yesterday.
for a laptop waiting makes sense - power savings are worth a lot. But really you might be out till Oct before you get it. How much is it worth to you to have it before then?
Anand just compared Core 2 (merom) to core duo (yonah). Results were not that impressive IMO. Not the 20% that Intel has advertised. The Santa Rosa platform may help as FSB was thought to hamper core 2's perfromance. Overall, I've been waiting for Merom MBP and that's starting to look like an unnecessary wait. Interested to see what others think. Link is below.
My thinking has changed today - late today Apple announced it may have to revise their earnings back to 2002. Not a big deal for me as unit sales and gross margins will stay the same for Macs, iPods, OS X upgrades, apps, etc. The market, however, is going to twitch a bit and Apple would probably like some very strong news out of WWDC to counteract the potential bad press.
Apple would have known about today's announcement for a little while as they were investigating the issues. I can see Steve J calling Intel and basically saying, "Hey, pal, we're going to need a bunch more of the Core 2 chips ASAP." Intel complies and Apple announces that all Macs are now Core 2. Kicks ass in the sales area and provides some very nice results for Apple when announcing this quarter's earnings.
My bet as of tonight is that Core 2 transitions as fast as Intel can deliver the chips.

so u think waiting for a Core 2 duo Macbook is a good idea? .. after all leopard will be 64bit.
but you can always buy Leopard seperately. You can't with the Core 2 Duo 8)
