I really don't understand the thinking behind the strong held believes that Apple will still lag behind the rest of the PC market. To them, the Merom chip is pin-compadible with the Yonah chips. There's nothing the have to do besides change the chips they're placing in the computers. There's really no way Apple can afford the luxury of lagging behind the industry in their updates - when Apple was with Freescale/IBM, they updated when new chips were available. New chips will be available from Intel far more regularly, and if Apple doesn't keep up they will keep their "slow" monicker.
Exactly. Those days are long gone. Other PC manufacturers have already announced their Merom-based notebooks. Apple needs to follow suit. They can't afford not to.
No, I think he's confused between MacBook (with integrated Graphics) and MacBook Pro (with dedicated graphics). And Chucker isn't helping things

QED.
I think they'll stick with integrated graphics on the MB though, and whether they'll move to nvidia due to the ATI/AMD merger remains to be seen, but ATI still have the intel license, for now.
I totally agree that it would be nice to see Apple offer something somewhere between the bottom MBP and the black MB, either a MB with BTO dedicated graphics or a smaller MBP (essentially the same thing), but they always like to distinguish their product lines firmly.
It's quite funny that the compromise that a lot of people want seems to be just the one that Apple won't produce.

WWDC will be the first time that Apple has had an opportunity to respond to an upgrade in the Intel line. It's going to be interesting to see what their policy is related to rapidly (compared to PPCs) changing processor offerings.
I personally see no problem with Steve J making a brief announcement that the MBP will now be delivered with Merom chips - they might be putting them in the MBPs already.
While Steve J has been good at keeping the WWDC Keynotes focused on developer issues I seem to recall that the original iSight release was at WWDC a few years ago. If something is ready and Steve wants the media attention he'll include it.
Steve J is looking at two issues related to developers: the first is to get them excited about developer issues, like Leopard. The second is to get (or keep) them excited about developing for Macs in general. After he gets them excited about the PM replacement he would only build on that excitement by saying Apple was so impressed with Core 2 that, as of today, they are going into the MB. He might even throw in the iMac to bump the excitement level up a bit more.
Personally I believe that Apple needs to demonstrate that they are delivering Macs with the newest chips just as fast as the competition is and WWDC is a good time to demonstrate that.

Well, there is plenty to gloat about gaining Notebook market share. Wasn't is 12% or something in the month of June? I don't think he will miss that opportunity and also introduce the upgraded MBP. Of course this will only happen if Apple is getting sufficient supply of the Merom otherwise a premature announcement will result in a pause/stall in MBP sales.

i agree, i think they're beginning to lag behind in features, options.

I think you're suggesting that they put geforce graphics into the macbook.

for the macbook pro, you can't settle for an integrated graphics card, so its not what i'm discussing.
for the macbook, if they are going to have an integrated graphics card to reduce the cost, i dont think that intel's integrated card would do the job.
if there isnt a 13" Macbook pro, i can settle with a macbook with a "better" integrated graphics card, an nforce for example.
u dont want it to "not be able to play games with" .. u just want it to be able to play some games with it, and i dont mean like the sims.
i hope it's clear now. excuse my english, it's my 2nd language.
