Conroe powered Mac, there is a big gap in the price of Apple's computers now between the entry for Pro and Consumer products. The $2499 computer is more than a lot of people will want to spend on a computer, Pro or not. Let's not forget that in the Pre G5 days entry for the PM was between $1499 and $1699. The iMac won't fill all of the needs in the $1299-$2499 range.

Just to clarify; a post-purchase expandable headless desktop in the above price range is needed (lest anyone pipes up with a "You have the iMac!") post.
The moment I saw the entry level Mac Pro's higher price ($2499), I immediately assumed there'd be one more thing... some sort of headless Mac to sit between the iMac and MacPro. I hope I'm right.

I think that $1299-1499 is fine for an entry price for an expandable system w/o dedicated display. However with the lower prices of LCD panels today the iMac is due for a price drop. They should be able to get a $999 consumer iMac on the market and drop the price of the high end Mini to $799.
I'm not expecting a mid range desktop. I would like one, but for the time being I expect Apple to milk the towers for at least a while, if not indefinitely.

Considering no new displays were launched with the Mac Pro AFAIK, it could be that.

Here's hoping I'm completely wrong.
OMG, Timeline is hot. My harddrive just failed on me last week. How poignant...
It's made of dark magic though, I don't trust it.
Didn't somebody say something weird about "announcements all this week"?
Of new UB apps.
