I've thought the same as well, but Dell looks to be slow to adopt core 2. Went to thier web site looking to configure a core 2 system and it only comes in an XPS model and starts at over 2k. They are still pushing pent ds and <gads> p4s hard. Thats all you can get on their other desktops.

Yeah, but the C2D's are just around the corner. Just look at Digg's homepage today and you see a few stories about C2D chips in various products. Apple won't want to wait too long to get them out there.

By mid-Sept, everything will be updated, except for the Macbook (which will probably be updated by November).

I've got to say that I think that Apple's move in offering one configuration for the Mac Pros is a good sign. (It's something I thought they should have done ages ago.) As new chips and vid cards and hard drives etc. become available, they can add them to the BTO store and adjust the prices. Offering only one config actually (and ironically) indicates a readiness to be more flexible with processors, prices, and the whole 9. I'm taking this as an indication thet they are going to update sooner rather than later, and that they don't have their heads up their rears.

I think they'll probably go to two standard configs for the iMac, based on their screens, and then make everything else BTO. They'll then offer new chips and prices as appropriate. They may even offer a choice of going with Merom or Conroe (I'm guessing Conroe will be in the standard config). So late August or early September is when the iMac will be bumped (along with a faster Yonah in the mini). I'm thinking the MPB will be the one to wait until Sept 12.
