I just finished transfering over everything to my wife's new C2D. The migration seemed slow and installing iWorks 06 and Aperture took a long time. Once that was done everything seems to have sped up. Yeah it's nice.
It's not that hot at all. At least mine isn't...at ALL. Just a tad warm, as any laptop would be. Cooler than my 12" PBG4.
Also, the freakin' edges are sharp as a knife. Very stupid. I am going to have to file them down somehow. The keyboard is kind of annoying but I guess I can get used to it. Other than that this thing is bitchin'!!! Very nice to feel to it otherwise as well. And I love the glossy screen.
My wife has monopolies her's - she let me do the grunt work, migration and installing new apps. iMovie was a lot faster than our G4 1.67. It did seem that we needed a lot of light for the camera during iChat to have a really good picture. First time we had multiple connections at the same time, very cool. We had family in Virginia, Texas and England all going at the same time.
Aquatic is the Providence store a full size one or a mini? I will be up that way and am trying to get the in-laws to upgrade and want to show them the new imac.
1. I just closed the lid on my machine and it rebooted. WTF!?!!?!
2. Half the time the trackpad does not respond for a few seconds. In other words it takes a few seconds of drawing around on it before the cursor moves. Again, WTF!? Perhaps I will have to call Apple and/or get a replacement? Anyone else seeing this?
3. iChat just crashe (it hung; "beachballed" in other words). This has also happened now multiple times to Safari. NOTHING else open. NOTHING. Just restarted (from the random restart that just occurred above.) 1 gig of Apple RAM. Very unacceptable. Very disappointed.
This is one thing that I don't know whether I will like if this is still the only option when I'm buying next August. Were you wary of the glossy screen, or were you convinced that it would be superior, before you bought it? I just worry that it will be annoying when I want to take my computer to the park or to a coffee shop where I have no control over the lighting conditions -- having to point the screen slightly down towards keyboard to avoid any glare (perhaps a good pair of polarised sunglasses would be good to have? -- joking). I agree that the glossy screens look good, but I've only ever seen them inside in perfect lighting conditions, so I'm wondering if you (or anyone else) has some experience with using the glossy screen outdoors.
purchased 2 thursday, called apple they will give me the friday price on my whole 5 orders (bought a lot)
so how long from order to ship..... can't wait,
when it comes i will get rid of my dell, hp and be completly WINBLOZ FREE apple and i have worked long and hard on this
now can someone tell me how to migrate from an ibook g4 and apple g3 (i only want the os 10 stuff no classic 9)
and are there some apps, program demos i can delete to free up hd space. there should be a thread for this whole moving to a intel mac with pointers to clean up the hd.. i read somewhere at AI that some useless apps suck up a bunch of hd space and i want it off.
will the migration mess up my itunes and iphoto, i want to stay with iphoto 5 so i can export to shutterfly and homepage.
what if i want to only load portions of ilife, i don't need it all.

I have a Glossy HP-- I hate the Glossy screen, it's like a mirror indoors. The only time it looks alright is when the room is dark.
Kinda sounds like bad RAM maybe Aquatic. That happened to my mom's iMac back in 2002. It worked great for a couple hours and then it went to hell. Sucks that you got a lemon. Hope you get it fixed/replaced quickly!

Drives me batty. So glad I got the matte.
That's what I'm afraid of. There is no option for a matte screen on the Macbook: you have to pony-up for a MBP for that option. Absurd. As I said, I hope this changes by August, otherwise I don't know what I'll do. Maybe have to put up with a Macbook mirror (I use my notebook at my local coffee shop almost as much as I do at home, so lighting is going to be an issue), or I might have to consider carting around a giant 15" MBP (even the 13" MB is large in my opinion), or, more likely, that Thinkpad X60s (running Red Hat -- I've had it with Winblows) is looking mighty tempting. Come on, Apple!

I was having that problem on my MBP C2D (the frozen cursor thing)-- apparently a lot of people are.
The solution is to uncheck "ignore accidental trackpad input" in the keyboard and mouse/trackpad pref panel. I guess the current software is a little aggressive about what it considers "accidental", hopefully if enough people complain Apple will make an update that mellows things out.
The only down-side to having accidental input off that I've noticed is that if you type lying down, with the 'book propped up on your knees, it puts the base of your wrists perilously close to the trackpad, which means frequent random jumps of the cursor.
As for the other stuff, try reseating your ram. Shipping can loosen things up in there.
I did have that checked. And now i'm typing in the URL field half the time, making typos, etc. I'll have to decide which is worse. This never was a problem on my PBG412", though I think I never hit the trackpad because it was so small. Hmm.
I'll try reseating the RAM. If that doesn't fix the crashing/restarting I'm going to be a tough customer with Apple on the phone tomorrow.ch
Mine took four days to ship, but that was probably lucky. I'd say you have it by this weekend, though. Have fun with it, just one warning: if you're used to a slow computer, be warned, because when you go back to a slow computer, you'll want to slam it with a baseball bat. These things are FAST I love mine, it's the coolest thing I own.

Haha, the turkey slice thing was funny... Nice, Sandau!
Upgrade on a MPB 17?
HD and memory upgrade you could do.. but not processor... which laptop do you have?
Are you sure it's an Apple ?
Well, seeing the C2D was released less than 2 weeks after I bought mine, I ended up getting a complete switch. :P
So...

This is the best computer I've ever owned, and it just keeps getting better as I find out more of the things it can do.
And I love the glossy screen.

SOON TO BE FREE AT LAST
Didn't buy it from Providence.
