The Mac ran for 24 hours with no problems. I woke it up from sleep this morning, checked my mail/News with no problem. Then it went to sleep while I had breakfast and would no longer wake up. I closed down, used the Apple/Alt/P/R and it loaded to the apple logo then just sat there with the indicator spinning for ten minutes. I restarted again using the same and it loaded to a 'Please restart your computer...' notice. And so it continues. Each time I restart I get the same message.

About to try complete restart: Power cord out/ in/power on...

    Nope. The same message.

If I manage to get in there must be a way to finally repair this problem. Any suggestions?

PS: I have the 2005 model iMac G5, 17" screen.

    no promises, but....

Your symptoms are similar to a problem I had. It was fixed (under AppleCare) by replacing the power supply (internal transformer).

According to the gal I talked to at AppleCare, this is a known problem with the iMacG5 (mine's a 20" 1.8). She made it sound like it would have been covered even without AppleCare, but I wouldn't count on that. Though when I brought it in to the Apple Store for repair, they said they'd had to do a lot of these, and even had the part in stock for a 30 minute repair .

My problem is that the next Apple store is in Casablanca and I'm south in Agadir, over 500 km - if there is no road damage because of the recent rains.

I think you should back up your data when the computer gives you a chance to and then do a clean install of the os.

I'm trying to get into my machine. The instructions I'm finding tell me about the screws and lifting off the back. My screws are closer together (3 removable, 2 fixed on the wire mesh) and the back does not just lift off. The whole inside starts to lift out fron the bottom then it sticks. There must be clips but I don't find them.
