SOME new product or hardware revision...Apple wouldn't go almost half a year without a hardware upgrade. They barely go 6 weeks on average.
Does anyone think that Apple would release Leopard without doing another preview? I'm starting to think that they will have one large software release event in late winter. March 21 is waaaay too late for no releases from Apple. And AppleTV doesn' count.
I know what you're thinking, but that's a long away away.
It is a little ways away. It could be any time now, but I was thinking in terms of PR impact. PR impact seems to be the biggest factor in what and when Apple decides to announce products. That statement assumes the next Final Cut Studio is announced then and has been better optimized for an eight-way computer, introducing a new eight-way then would increase the bang. At least stuff like Compressor can use a boost from better multi-way encoding. I think FCS is almost a gimme, but there may be complications, for example, last year's transition might have delayed their usual product cycle by a year.

I see no reason why any of that has to come out first.
If it weren't for the iPhone, all of that would have been announced, or for Leopard, discussed.
Hardware updates aren't a major deal, except to those up us wanting to buy the latest, rather than finding out that we just bought the last old model off the shelf.
Even if Apple underwent major case redesigns, they would have been shown at MACworld. That's the purpose of it.
As far as I'm concerned, if Apple wants to show off a new phone, they can do it at CES. Then show their computer products at MACworld.
If they don't want to do that, they can have a new event called iPHONEworld.
But, Jobs did tell CES that he would be happy to be there if it didn't coincide with MacWorld.

I'm willing to bet that by not announcing new updates to their hardware, Apple is losing sales as we write this. Those sales will likely be made up once the new machine come out, but still...
It also antagonizes its customers, both before and after they buy an older product, because they were waiting for MacWorld, but have no time left, and must buy now.

I agree, but they seem to be inflexible about their product update strategies, which leads me to my prediction. I hope I am wrong and that an update is announced next Tuesday.

You know what would be really cool?
If they were announced right before or after the analysts call tomorrow.

But think of what has to come out before then. And I mean has to:
Leopard, iWork, iLife updates (and possibly .Mac too)
