I'm looking at iTunes 7 and I don't see any Aqua.. Is Aqua dead?

Is Apple moving to the next generation of UI design for Leopard, apparently called Illuminous?

Is Apple ditching the bubbly blue toy-like look of its OS, in favor for a more professional looking, fully-unified-across-the-board, sleeker look?

It's still Aqua, right? Just more refined and elegant.

Well that's debatable. I looks like Aqua, but it could be argued it can get a new name. Certain aspect like the close, minimize & Zoom buttons, and other tells, but they could disappear too, who knows.

I sure hope so! I don't want to wait another ~2 years for an improved UI.

So you're not used to it yet, good, you'll get used to the new UI too.

hopefully it won't be "unified" I really like the various looks of different applications. But, honestly I'm not worrying about it because I know they're smart enough to keep doing things the right way that they've been doing them.

But, I think we'll see the end of the bubbly blue elements, except for the red, yellow, and green dots on the left. When I voted that I think aqua is leaving, I basically assumed that to mean the bubbly blue elements of the OS.

You never know, those red, amber and green buttons may change in Leopard, a slight change though I think.

I don't see what everyone's problem is with the Aqua look, I like it. Not the icky BRIGHT CANDY OWCH MY EYES incarnation from the original OSX versions, but the more reserved kind of Aqua we have now looks good, methink.

There's not anything necessarily wrong with Aqua, I just think it is about time that OSX makes a change. It has been awhile since a significant UI overhaul, and from the looks of things it would probably be accepted on the most part.

All these things you have just said are exactly the reasons I started this thread. However I think it could be argued that some parts of aqua are a bit distracting and slightly unnecessary.

Yes, Aqua is dead. Look at the new Apple main page. New Color behind the Apple logo!

hmmmm...I always considered itunes 7 to just be the evolution of aqua, I never thought it to be a new UI. Makes sense though. If everything looked like itunes 7 that'd be cool, I'd have no problem with it.

I think what's behind the mainpage logo has nothing to do with anything though. Unless you think navy blue or white will have a huge impact.

It seems to me that a new GUI is a significant enough change that apple would want to unveil it at WWDC so developers can adjust to using the new look. But I think it's highly likely that iLife '07 will look like iTunes.

At any rate, if Leopard gets the iTunes look, the first thing I will do will be to install UNO. I find the dark colors to be ugly and depressing, but that's just me (I'm using the Aqua4iTunes skin that comes with UNO now, and it looks quite nice).

That all said, I will gladly submit myself to any new look as long as one of the "top secret" features is a new finder.

I agree with this, I like the bright happy colors of Aqua. That iTunes interface looks almost like an improved version of GNOME..
