Someone wanted a sound recording app ?

Check versiontracker for "Sound Studio". It might not be "killer", but it is cheap, stable, and fairly easy to use/understand. I've used it to convert a lot of old cassettes and vinyl to CD and MP3.

otherwise, Appleworks is fine for my use and a lot cheaper than Office.

I like all the iApps ... good programs for the price !

If you do anything more than the most basic web-creation (appleworks will make a decent basic page) ... I have nothing but good things to say about Macromedia DreamweaverMX.

    just my 2 cents worth.

Maybe alot of people don`t feel like compiling unix apps. I personally like the free alternatives to some of the expensive mainstream apps.

i never used ijournal before. mac journal can be used as an actual journal, but i just keep my notes in it-- a replacement of sorts for Notepad. you can get it (free) on apple's site too:
