Windows Vista Gimmicks...Yep, Microsoft is pulling out all the stops
So here are two of the newest gimmicks for people to buy Vista:
WINDOWS VISTA ULTIMATE LIMITED NUMBERED SIGNATURE EDITION

and of course the "Buy Vista Ultimate and get up to 2!!! Home Basic Editions for $50"
"Simultaneously, the company has revealed its first family licensing plan for Windows. The simply-titled Vista Family Discount will give purchasers of Vista Ultimate in full or upgrade editions the option to buy as many as two copies of Vista Home Premium at $50 each. The upgrade path marks a stark change in the company's approach to home licensing, where the company has previously insisted on individual licenses. Apple has offered five-system licenses of Mac OS X since the introduction of Jaguar in 2002, but has to date only provided physical media for its updates."

Even passing mention of the idea makes baby Jesus cry.
Why must Microsoft make baby Jesus cry?
And the "re-Arm 2099" hack already widely used in the wild, makes the serial number and activation and "security" of Vista ONE BIG F**CKING JOKE.
Let's just say, how secure do you think an operating system really is when the first hack you can do is a pretty much old-skool trick messing with the dates of the system so it never "times out" of the 30-day grace period which is given to you when you first install Vista -- during this 30 day grace period no need for activation, serial: maybe, but generally pretty smooth. "Re-Arm 2099" and other "StopClock" hacks pretty much make this 30 day limit, well forever.
MMmmmm... how much R&D and coding and billions of dollars did they spend on Vista security? MMMMM...
A "numbered limited edition" of an operating system destined to become the defacto standard for 90% of the worlds computers makes baby Jesus cry.

I think I got through Chapterhouse Dune (it's been awhile) but my impression is that it's turned into one of those zombie franchise deals, like they did with Clark's Foundation series.

lmao. I haven't started on chapterhouse yet. that'll be the job for the summer when school is out.
...like they did with Clark's Foundation series.
I believe you mean Asimov's Foundation series.

Oh my dear God, I hang my head in shame. I was simultaneouly thinking of Clark's Rama series.
Signature Edition. Christ.
Barry did it to me and it worked...
I wouldn't fall for that crap, even for Stevie J. or Jony Ive. And I'm pretty sure that the vast majority of Windows users will get how stupid it is, even Thurrott. Only the hardcore drones will buy.
P.S. Guybrush, I'm touched! Come over and pull into hug harbor!
Man Law: Anyone who expresses a positive perception of the signature edition must be ridiculed without mercy. All in favor?
Put it in here...

they still have time to change the packaging for leopard and have steve jobs' signature on every box lol.
ha, if the box of Leopard was even 'touched' by The Jobs, people here would be lining up to kiss it.
