I'd like them to add functionality to control your iPod with the remote while it's docked. It would be a lot more convenient to scroll through your lists and such like you do in Front Row, because it's hard to use the iPod while it's docked.
Yeah! I opened up keynote and an old presentation I had and got out my remote and started paging through the slides-- much to my amazement. Center play button plays back show if that's what you've set up, perimeter left and right moves forward and backward through slides one at a time, and perimeter up and down controls volume.
Apple should make a bigger deal about this, since people in educational setting are always fumbling about for a USB remote to run their shows.

Absolutely! That's why I asked! I have a presentaion to give in one of my classes, and was wondering if the remote would work!
Here's a new question, If i have an iBook that obviously does not have the Front Row sensor, and I have a new Mac Mini that DOES have it, is there some sort of USB reciever that could be plugged into my iBook and made to work with the Apple Remote. Longshot, I know....

Maybe, but at that point you might as well get a Kensington remote, which you know will work with both Powerpoint and Keynote, Front Row or no.
I agree, price would be critical, although "what if it breaks" isn't much of a objection, since by that logic you should never by anything that costs more than $20.
Yet the difference is that this would be a REMOTE! A very simple tool. I would much rather have 3 or 4 20-50 dollar remotes than 1 very expensive one.
There really would not be any more functionality for an expensive remote...it would just be more intuitive. The iPhone has a ton of functionality that other phones don't have (well, at least the interface is SOOO terrible on most phones that it can't always be called functional... ). A remote though...all it is in a more intuitive controller.

I would say a "more intuitive controller" is of more immediate interest to a lot of people than a more intuitive cell phone.
Again, as I've been saying, for many the remote situation is completely out of hand. They've just given up and limit themselves to the most basic functions. It's not like it's a choice between "meh, adequate" remote and "crazy expensive singing and dancing Apple remote".
It's a choice between "I have no idea how to control all this shit" and "oh, awesome, I can".
A remote that controls a lot of things could be simple, but like a lot of CE these days, that means the remote has to be pretty smart, so you don't have to be.

Does anyone know if you can controll Keynote with the Front Row remote? And if you can't, why not?
Keynote 3 normally supports this. There's also third-party apps such as Remote Buddy.
Huh, just tried it and it worked. Didn't know, good to know.
So it worked? Just like that, it worked? If so, that is fantastic!
