Well, technically speaking, the CURRENT top of the line Macs have a G4,BUT, the to-be-released-tomorrow top of the line or Pro Macs could have a G5.My personal opinion: unlikely.
well if there aren't G5's out tomorrow then they have to be fast G4's because the time story said the top of the line imac will have a superdrive and the slowest superdrive they put in a powermac was 733 so i think the powermac at the least will be a minimum of 867
"Are other noncomputer appliances on the horizon? "We have some ideas," says Jobs, adding that Apple would enter the marketplace "where we think we can make a contribution." For instance? Jobs sits back, smiles and declines to elaborate. Clearly, he's already working on something new. You can bet it's the best thing that Apple has ever done."
He isn't even hinting at a new device to go with the iMac. iTunes was around for a while before the iPod, and if there is an Apple digital camera, it might be the same idea (kinda nice, you can blame the camera companies for any problems while you work out the bugs/flaws inthe software and then release iTake when the software is at version 2.0).
Strange wild crazy thought comes to mind, but I will save for another time

Sounds like a hint to me. "We have some ideas", "sits back, smiles and declines to elaborate". Those sounds like hints to me.
I never thought of the G4 only being in the top end iMac. I guess this could be a possibility. I think the whole iMac line needs to move into G4 though. The xtra power will be needed to make this whole digital hub thing fly smoothly. OS X on a G3 just doesn't cut it. It works...just not the way it should.

I agree, iMac II/G4 has to lead to Pro G5. They'll need the G4's to make supply meet the demand of the retailers. Not to mention the required performance boost to the Pro Line up. Can't have the consumer market overlap the Pro one ... can we?

I think Steve can make it as long or as short as he feels like.
The show floor opens on Tuesday, remember.
