    The DST update is for:

    1. MacOSX - which is good, means US daylight savings and other time zones around the world will detect the dates and set the system clock appropriately.

    2. WebObjects - being website middleware stuff, it's good when forum displays, online shopping, "localisation" stuff detects the DST properly when you specify which city/ country you are in.

Although, the relative merits of WebObjects itself is debatable at this stage, AFAIK.

No, it was more simple (fewer shades of gray, just like the Apple boot symbol) and the western hemisphere was further to the left, so you could see both hemispheres. I'm really curious about this, so let me give some more details.

I was in the middle of downloading the updates, then accidentally forgot and closed my screen. When I opened it again, the computer was frozen, with no video, so I did a hard power off (hold down power button). When I turned it back on, it worried me, because the world symbol stayed on for so long--but I figured it was something to do with the updates. However, when I did get back in to OS X, I checked for updates and they were still there, needing to be installed.

Where is your computer and how is it connected to the Network?

    (random link: http://campus.umr.edu/cis/desktop/do...oot/index.html)

    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=303124

"Press Option during startup: Starts into Startup Manager, where you can select a Mac OS X volume to start from. Note: Press N to make the the first bootable Network volume appear as well."

If you press Option-N during startup you may get a selection of the "Earth" NetBoot icon, and a "Hard Disk" icon to choose which to click.

my 1.25GHz Powerbook G4 (512 MB DDR SDRAM) running Mac OSX 10.4.8 has no problem downloading that big 81Meg compressed file (thanks Cox) in about 2 minutes.

then the powerbook goes on to decompress it or whatever and then just when it looks like it's through, i get a message that some files could not be installed...?

i am using the admin account to do this. it further instructs me to drag the compressed thing out of the trash (where it has put it for me) and try again. when i do, it walks me through the whole sh-bang via the installer. it even tells me it's "installing files" (or "writing files") and gets to the 90-something % then stops and gives the same message.

    help!

    thanks.
